| DCE / DTE which one is user end and which is service provider end?
Default Encapsulation for ISDN, is it PPP or HDLC???
Does the Transport or Session layer Establish, Maintains, and Terminates the Link? | |

here's my guess..
1.DCE is service provider end and DTE is user end.
2.default encap for ISDN is HDLC.
3.session layer does it !!!!!

| 1. DCE = Service provider equipment, DTE = customer premises equipment.
2. There is no default encapsulation type for ISDN, as such. Firstly you have to consider what equipment you are actually using. If your router does not have a BRI interface, then you must connect through a TA from your router's serial port. Your serial interface has a default encapsulation of HDLC, which can be changed to PPP. For a BRI interface, I believe the default encapsulation is also HDLC (anyone??) and this can also be changed to PPP. So, due to the default encapsulations of the interfaces, ISDN has a default encapsulation of HDLC.
3. I go with the transport layer. This is used for establishing virtual circuits, data transfer and tearing virtual circuits down.
