| Hi! All!
I just joined you guys today. I plan to take CCNA soon. But the popularity of CCNA make me little concerned: Is CCNA going to lose its value as MCSE (which means almost everybody has MCSE, the value of it degraded a lot)? I had MCSE more than 1 year ago, and SCSA this year. But I'm really hiding my MCSE log, because I don't want people to think I am just an MCSE.
Any advice is welcome. | |

| Any investment has a risk. CCNA is no exception. Just see how busy I am to chat to different people. That alone is worth more than winning the lottery.
Just kidding! Decide for yourself. Good or bad, its all yours. | |

| Here's my take . . . no matter how many O/S related certifications you get, you're still going to need the backbone and infrastructure people. There's always going to be hubs, bridges, switches, and routers around no matter whether the primary computer based network is Novell based, Microsoft, UNIX, AS/400, mainframe, etc. Add to that, voice and video over IP and you're looking at something that is going to be more valuable over time than an O/S related certification.
Any certification in this field is going to gain you a few extra bucks in salary so it's got to be worth it. The respect (alone) you gain is probably worth a little something.
That's my opinion and view for whatever it's worth.

| I agree. If you don't know that basics your done. CCNA cert is just the basics of networking in conjunction with BASIC Cisco IOS commands and stats. As time goes on you will need to learn new things. Yes, MCSE is common. BUT, since it IS common you may need to get it as a prequisite for employment. Don't get left behind and say, "EVRYONE HAS MCSE so I WILL NOT GET IT!" It is quickly becomming a necesity. Example, I have CCNA, MCSE, A+. Someone else has CCNA. Who would you hire? The more certs; the more smart an employer thinks you are and the better of a job you can do. Reality. Can I qoute the Godfather?,... "It's strictly business."

| I've heard that you have to recertify CCNA every 3 years. Is that true? | |
|
| yup, unless you move up a certification, (ie. CCNP) in which case your three year clock is reset.
