| Got sick of waiting to take the test, so I maxed out my credit cards, and put myself down for today. I passed with a score of 892 (first attempt). I was hoping for a score over 900, but due to sleep deprivation (hardly slept at all last night, I was so nervous) I didn't quite get there. I remember waking up in the middle of the night with garbled thoughts about routers, and not knowing the answer to some nonsensical question. My hand was shaking so much when I took the test that I couldn't click the mouse button properly!) Still I'm happy (I almost cried for joy when the Congratulations came up on the screen). I got 100% on five sections, botched switches/ bridges with 57% (that was my weak area...despite my efforts over the last weak, I don't think I made much ground. Something to work on...). After the first twenty questions I was thinking "Uh oh, I think I might fail this." After 40 questions, I thought "Well I might get there," and by the end I thought I would pass.
A few points to anyone taking the exam:
1) Study to learn, not just to pass (I studied for two solid months for this).
2) Read, read, read. Ask questions. I'm the consummate question asker here with over 200 posts )
3) Plan well. Take lots of practice tests. Take the tests AFTER you learn the topics. There is nothing gained from learning answers to test questions.
4) On the exam give each question its due. Try to get them all right. I think a trick of Cisco's is to place REALLY hard questions at the start of the exam, to throw your confidence. Just keep going. Focus, focus, focus. Mind over matter.
5) Come to this site!!!!!!!!! I believe it's the best source of learning for CCNA on the Internet. I taught myself all this material (didn't take any course), but I give a lot of credit to this site for what I learnt!
One thing I'd like to debunk is this idea that the wording on the exam is poor. I don't think it is. Confusing, perhaps: hey this isn't a pre-school exam - you have to actually think. Maybe I was just lucky in the choice of questions...but I don't think so. I think the questions are actually quite well thought out.
Gripes: The opening NDA sucks as it counts towards test time. What, we should just accept this agreement blindly?? I was struggling with time half way through...this is annoying: I'd rather be concentrating on the questions, thanks! (Still, I somehow managed to have 18 minutes remaining when I finished??). My texta wouldn't work. The screen was flickery.
My hearty thanks go out to these people in particular:
Skip, MadChef, danny226, edlinger/siegi (nimmer mehr werde ich den bogen spannen lassen!), Subnet_Zero (no umbrellas sold today - too sunny )
Also to these people:

And finally, though foremost, Cisco!!!
I'm onto CCNP, now. I'll be coming here as often as possible to help out with answers. I'm also putting up a Web site with my study notes and about a hundred (not quite) very useful mnemonics.
Cheers
Deets (Dietrich)

| Nice one Deets!!!!
I think the term that describes most people when they sit down for the test is; 'shaking like a shi**ing dog!'
Keep in touch through this or the CCNP board. I'd be glad to read your posts/questions......helps us all!
Well done.

to Deets
I was so sure that you will do it, though prometric made some mistakes in score-summarizing, when giving you only 892
I'm crying with you.
on first hand
because I'm so glad with you, that you finally could catch the certification, which you really have gained with hard work.
on second hand
because of your entertainment on that "dark hours" of studying (remembering one of your quotes: "pissing all around, when oil comes from the ground" - a new form of producing fossil energy)
on third hand
when thinking about, that you will leave us sometimes. please don't do this to us! keep in touch with us! your helpful contributions are invalueable for all of us!
that of course must be a sunny day for you, when passing the exam
> nimmer mehr werde ich den bogen spannen lassen
- jetzt kannst du deinen bogen für eine weile entspannen -
hey, dietrich - did you ever think about doing "german studies" instead of CCNP?
I'm sure you would pass the exams with 1000
weiterhin alles Gute Dietrich!

| Deets,
CONGRATULATIONS. I know how you must feel right now. I am proud of you. Considering your postings on this forum I was convinced you would make it, but still it was up to you to do it. I didn't find the time yet to read your complete message, but I will later on. What I saw was your score of 892. Off course it would have been nice to have a score in the 900's but the most important thing is your certificate. I hope you will keep posting on this forum and I am also curious to know what your next step will be.
FANTASTIC !!!

| You did it, Deets!!!!
I don't think there's ever been this much excitement before about anyone passing the exam. You have really left your mark on our group!
Cheers,

| Deets!!!
Congratulations - you did it (I knew you would).
I was cruisin' the news trying to find out who our new president will be (too close to call right now) and getting ticked off - when I said to myself "let's see what Deets has to say today". You can't imagine how suprised I was to see your post - that you finally took the plunge.
892 is nothing to spit at - you worked extremely hard for it and in such a short time. The main thing is you now have that cert and that is what counts.
I know you will still be around and posting questions - I'm counting on them as I always learn from them. You are definitely a credit to this forum so don't be a stranger.

| Congrats. You've been an excellent addition to this forum and I hope you'll stick around to answer questions to those just starting and maybe ask some new ones over in the CCNP forum as you move on.

| Deets,
I know everyone has responed (who wouldn't). But congrads!!! That is so great!! If any one deserved to pass you did!! And I am so happy for you. As Skip said, there hasn't been this much excitement with anyone passing the test. That is neat. Here in the US we are having a really close election race for president, and everyone is excited and nervous to see the outcome. But I am more excite that you passed the test.
I hope that I can post later this week the same as you did. I am taking my test really so. I won't say when because I am supertisous that way. But when I pass I'll let you know. Good luck on your CCNP. Come back to this forum often, because I looked in the CCNP forum and they are a bunch of begars. Congrads again. WE are all proud of you!!!!!!!! | |
|
| Deets,
Way to go man! I thought you would be the first person to score 1000 on the test, but whether you score 922 or 822 it is still a go either way. Good luck on your CCNP and especially your job search.

| Deets,
Glückwünsche auf dem Überschreiten. Ich war sicher, daß Sie es tun konnten.
Gut regnete es nicht!
Because if it did, you may have gotten wet and they don't let wet german speaking Australians take CCNA tests.
Good job!!!!! | |
|
| Yes!!!! Finally!!! The primary reason I have been visiting this site since I passed my exam on Sept. 29 is to see the announcement that Deets has passed! Gott sei dank! Du arbeitest zufiel Deets! ach ja, ich mache Spass...isn't it strange how so many of us speak German in this forum?? hmm. CONGRATULATIONS Dietrich, you rock!!!! | |
|
| Die Deutschsprechende wissen was gut ist, deswegen kommen sie hier
How's life, Danny? Which forum are you hanging out at these days?
Deets | |
|
| Way to go Deets--we all knew you were going to do it--yup, I thought you were going to get 1000 too, but we forgive you.

| Deets,
I haven't been hanging out in any other forums. I've just been really busy with my senior thesis on "Im Westen nichts Neues" - writing about its political and artistic reception. I do have a quick question, however, for anyone who wishes to answer:
Is is possible for a router (non-cisco) to arbitrarily bar access to the internet to a given NIC? What I mean is that at my work over the summer I had a computer that for no apparent reason stopped reaching the Internet despite the fact that it was still on the LAN. My theory is that the router has learned the MAC address and chosen to bar it from the internet for some reason. When I swapped in a different NIC, everything worked fine! Would simply rebooting the router clear the MAC address table? I never instructed the router to statically learn addresses. Moreover, I have never really done anything with this router because at the time I didn't know much about them. |
