Can some one please tell me what the dns numbers go to. When I have to set up a new machine I all ways have to put in the following IP number sm gateway then dns numbers. We connect to the the internet through a service center. I am guessing the theses are the numbers to their routers.

A (Domain Name Server)DNS number is the IP addresses of "NAME" server that contains the lookup table for the actual IP address of the host. For example, when you type in "www.cisco.com", that name "www.cisco.com" has to be converted to an IP address so an arp can be done to find the actual web server out there on the net. I'm reading a book called DNS and Bind by O'riley press. Good book if you want to know more about DNS.
