Author Some thoughts After passing.. 922

2000-10-26, 4:21 pm

I passed with a 922 this mourning, I was disappointed with the test... It was not easy, there were plenty of questions I did not have any idea.. But most of them you could get the right answser just by eliminating stupid anwsers... The point is this is a multiple choice test and make so utilize those strategies...
Keep in mind that this is a completely different test from 640-407.. I have plenty of friends who passed that and they said it was 80% the OSI model... This test is possibly 15% the OSI model... So make sure you know the difference between switches, routers,.. broadcast..collision.. tcp..udp, connection oriented..connectionless... Some surprises.. Maybe 0 or 1 IPX questions..less than expected...
3 or 4 about ISDN, more than I expected...
A "show stp" question...
Know how to start and configure Rip and IGRP...

If you know that stuff and know how to take a multiple choice test... Go take it and pass it...

IF any one has anymore questions.. Email me..

I studied for about a month.. Using Todd's book.. And the CIsco Press.. Use todd's it is so much easier to understand and except for the VLAN part easier to understand... Go through all the questions in his book.. They are not that many like the actual test but they are harder and get you prepared.. And use all the FREE resources on the web... Email me if you have any questions...

Good luck

Can you give an example or two of a VLAN question? (Don't need the exact question, more of what to study for) Also you mention Sybex wasn't good for the VLAN, did the Cisco (Odem) book cover it in depth enough?

Also any hints on Access-lists.

Thanks

Tom

P.S. congrats - way to go

I don't really remember the questions.. There might have only been one..
I just thought that the cisco book did a better job explaining VLAN's, it gave solid examples.. It just clicked when I read it there... But Todd's book is sufficient in the subject.. Just know what they are and the different protocols used in tagging..

Ok, I remember now there was one question and it wanted you to know how these tagging protocols like ISL and 802.2q manipulated the frame.. What does it add...

Good luck..

Access lists these were the toughtest questions on the test for me, I had three questions.. One was very confusing worded and I just guessed.. But I just studied Todd's book and I think I got the other two right..

So I don't have any suggestions but to study..

Thanks,

Actually your answers are pretty helpful. Right now, I'm "brushing" up on my weak areas. (Can you guess which ones??? ;-) )
I probably could pass the exam now, with a little luck, and some guessing, but I don't want to take the chance.

I have both books. I bought the Cisco book, and I have the Sybex book from the local public library. Both books really seem weak in the VLAN area, so I don't expect too much.

Are Lammle's questions harder than those on the exam??!!! Lammle's questions are, pardon the French, PISS EASY!!

I think Danny226 is probably right. Time to sit the sucker....

Hi.
Congrats for passing. I passed my exam on 24 oct with 946/1000. I got the question for VLAN :
How will you be certain that STP is working (VLAN 1) properly in your switched network when you use the syntax show spantree?

1.Bridge identifier has priority 32768
2.Address is 0050F037DA00
3.Designated port has priority 0
4.VLAN 1 is executing the IEEE spanning tree protocol *

Dont worry guys, the exam is not that tough. You should go through the book thoroughly atleast 2 times and do all the dumps from where ever possible.

Regarding Access-list i got this question:
How do you view all access list applied on all interfaces? (CHOOSE 2)
1.Show access list *
2.Show running config *
3.Show acces list all
4.Show access list interfaces all

another question.
How do u apply access list on interface?

· Ip access list in/out

· Ipx group acess in/out

· Ip acess group in/out *

So dont worry and just keep up the hard work.

Regading sonyK, yes in the exam it is clearly mentioned either of these:
choose the best.
choose 2
choose 3
choose 4
so on.

I can not find
1.Show access list *
3.Show acces list all
4.Show access list interfaces all
command in the book of Wendell and Steve McQuerry. What does "*" and "all" stand for in the command?

2000-10-28, 2:36 am

'*' is only the mark for the right answer.

'all' is part of a wrong answer and will result in error, if you enter to a router.
