Author Passed 913

Just got done a few hours ago. I think I was so nervous from reading how difficult the test was that I was sort of letdown once i took it. Dont take me wrong, there were some difficult questions, and I have to agree on some of the wording being questionable, however, as some other folks have said on this forum, if you know the material you can get past the bad questions.
I studied for about a month and a half using the Sybex book, e-trainer, and Techmindworks (invaluable as a confidence builder, by the way), and of course this forum, without which I would have lost my sanity while studying. Hope to see you all soon on the CCNP page!

Congrats!!!! I am not far behind you and am thinking about using Techmindworks as well. Their online trial version was pretty good and I liked how they changed the order of the answers so you could memorize as easy One more read of the Sybex and practice question and I think I will be ready, or at least close. How helpful was the e-trainer?? I have it and a router.

Thanks and great job!!!

Great Score!! Some of the wording was kinda shaky!! Other than that I thought it was a good test. What material are you going to use to study for your CCDA.

2 in a ipx network, what is the boardcast address

3 (RFC1700)ICMP IS implementd by all tcp/ip hosts?( true or fauls) I choose fauls

4 bridge question choose 2 (I choose B,C)
A> bridge add collisions
B> bridge decrease the collisions
C> bridge add collision domains

Let's see if I can answer these without the aid of a textbook.

1) 'Base' refers to baseband. This compares with the other option for cabling 'broadband.'

2) For the IPX network 40, the broadcast address would be 40.FFFF.FFFF.FFFF

3) I would go for 'true' here. Check this: http://sunsite.dk/RFC/rfc/rfc792.html, particularly this quote:
'....ICMP is actually an integral part of IP, and must be implemented by every IP module.' Could someone else confirm on this?

4) B&C are correct.

5) Default. For eg, if you saw [yes], all you would have to do would be hit return. If no, you specifically have to type "n" then hit enter.

Cheers,

Deets

Deets,

You are correct about ICMP. Ping is a function of ICMP. You should be able to ping any TCP/IP host, or there's something wrong with it. Without ICMP working properly on both hosts, you cannot ping between them.

In hindsight I do not think that having the e-trainer was vital to passing the test. The questions on IOS were not so in-depth that you could not have answered them just from reading, however, as some others have pointed out if you want to do the Cisco thing for a living having access to real routers is imperative.

Thanks

Thanks! It's funny that you asked about CCDA, I am trying to decide whether or not to go to CCDA next or CCNP. Any suggestions from the forum?
