| Yeah! I passed the i-Net+ test. My score was 93%
I went through the test and marked down answers I knew were correct, and ones I wasn't sure about. I had 5 in the 'bad' column. Well, the i-Net+ score report shows exactly how many you answered correctly in each category! And sure enough, I missed 5 questions on the test
Boy it's great to have done this -- and to have it out of the way of MCP! Good luck to those of you yet to take it.

| I used the Exam Cram book by Emmett Dulaney and Martin Weiss. It doesn't quite have everything in it that you will see on the test, but it is a very impressive book. I really like it.
For test software I used PREP for i-Net+ from http://www.i-netplus.com/ (or http://www.dalidesign.com/). This is an excellent program with 400+ questions. There's a demo. Once you register, you also get an extra help file, and I can see why it's listed as a big feature of the full version. It's a really good study guide on it's own. Just open the .hlp file and start reading The software touches on topics EC doesn't. You'll also probably learn more than you need to know!
I also had a huge list of Question of the Day e-mails from Coriolis (http://www.examcram.com/). They're similar to the Exam Cram questions though, so it wasn't too much additional help.
I was fortunate that I consulted several sources, and kept an eye on posts from people who had passed. That let me hear about more obscure topics that you can encounter on the test. You can pass even if you're unprepared for several questions, but you won't feel as comfortable.
If you have Network+, you can pass with just the Exam Cram (IMO). If you want to know it all, make sure to get PREP (or something!) as well.

| That was an awesome score! Glad to see a board like this that works so well.
What's next? MCP? anything else??

| Thank you, thank you, I do my best And yeah, this board is great. I wouldn't have heard about some of the i-Net+ topics without it!
Yes, MCP. If I can get through 70-210 and 215 successfully, I'd love to finish the MCSA track too!
I have the official Cisco Press books for CCDA (the DCN book and the study guide). I'll be studying them over time...

| The links work for me, so I'm not sure what I can do about it But as I said, it was earlier in this thread. So just scroll up! | |

| Congratulations! I passed mine recently and ever since it's been easy going with other exams. How hard is the CCNA exam? | |
| Chriscri 2002-01-29, 8:14 pm |
| I actually took that exam twice. I missed it the first time by one question! I was very nervous, I found myself clicking away without savoring the questions in my mind. I barely read them in fact (fealt nauceous).
The next time with a little help from others I was able to pass it. I would suggest that you get your hands on router sim, and work with that if you don't have access to real routers or switches. I used the sybex book which was written really well. Exam essentials was a big help as well. I think if you have good test taking skills and think before you click (since you can't go back once you answer!) then you will be fine!
Learn subnetting like the back of your hand, and even though you are comfortable doing it in your head, make the charts that you can learn at most how to sites:
128 192 224 240 248 252 254 255.
If I would have written the above chart on my first exam I wouldn't have missed one of the easier questions I missed.
The Question was you need 14 subnets on a class "C" address, what would be the last octed in the new subnet mask. I knew you need to borrow four bits and that would give you the 14 you would need in my mind I split the last octet in two 1111|0000 however for my answer I chose 248. because i thought that was the correct value by splitting the octet. If you look at just the example chart above you can see that the answer was 240.
The other thing you need to learn besides subnetting is the Access list: Ip, IP extended, IPX, and IPX extended.
If you see a questions about access lists and
choices are:
access_list 10 permit tcp any any
you would know that that is incorrect because standard access-list commands don't include protocols that is extended access-list. You can eliminate most answers by looking for differences. The exam essentials explained it to me pretty well so I could see the differences.
For another example of my nervousness. The question was you have eight users on a 10 Mb switch how much band width does each user get. The answer is 10 I chose 2.5 for whatever reason.
I hope this helps. Any other specific questions you might have fell free to e-mail me or IM me

| I agree with what Chriscri said. That knowledge will cover a lot of the test material.
Cisco commands are really focused upon. Even access lists mean you have to know commands and syntax. Everyone I know scored the lowest in the switching category. So if you know more than average about frame tagging, VTP, STP, etc. -- that may be an easy way to cover for a weak area of yours.
Network+ was a huge help! And I had a good instructor who made subnetting easy.
