Author Simple ? about ?

I have been using practice tests and have seen two different answers for this question. It should be simple,
(Question is not word for word)
To create a form/survey on a web page, what could you use?

Shockwave
Flash

I would choose Flash, because I know for a fact you can use CGI to create forms with Flash. But, it may be possible to do this in Shockwave and it is possible that when CompTIA made this test, Flash wasn't capable of forms.

Most practice tests choose Shockwave. I have seen one that chooses Flash.

Thanks

In order to be an e-commerce server, a computer must offer what service?

1. Credit Card Authenication
2. Virtual Shopping Cart Services

Which is the answer? I could see where both would and would not be needed.

1. Would be the best answer in my opinion. Right for CompTIA test?

Matt, I've seen a couple of threads on this forum that talk about both your questions. You can do a search to find them (I'd link them if I knew how). Regarding e-comm: search the thread "answer clarification". Most people lean on virt. cart. Regarding shock v. flash: search the thread "question?" by silverd. I hope this helps you! Good luck in your studying.

Hello Matt,

Your question asked:
quote:

In order to be an e-commerce server, a computer must offer what service?

1. Credit Card Authenication
2. Virtual Shopping Cart Services

The answer to this question is not one or the other; it's both. On page 133 of Sybex's INET STUDY GUIDE, they write:
"An e-commerce server is basically an Internet Web server that provides e-commerce services through Web server scripts or programs. Some of the e-commerce services commonly found on an e-commerce server include:

  • Catalog search service [...snip description...]
  • Virtual shopping cart services [..snip description...]
  • Credit card authentication [...snip...]
  • E-mail order verification [...snip...]

Hope that helps.

DTB, I agree with your (Sybex's) response but Comptia doesn't. You will see this question on the i-Net and only one answer will be right. The question is which one?

Hello DFox.
If I had to select one and only one answer, I would go with credit card authentication. My reasoning is this: You can purchas something through the server with credit card authentication, yet with no virtual shopping cart. Virtual shopping carts are merely a means of selecting the particular items an individual wants to purchas, but not the only way. In fact, a virtual shopping cart isn't even needed if there are only a few items for sale.

However, you cannot purchas something through the serverwith a virtual shopping cart, yet no credit card authentication.

If there is no credit card authentication, the user must mail in their payment. Now, if the transaction is taking place through the mail, then we cannot really say that the server is an e-commerce server.

I know this doesn't settle it one way or the other, but that's how I would decide if I had to chose one or the other.

P.S. How do we know that CompTIA is looking for only one answer? Has someone seen this on the test? Just curious.

Thanks,
DTB

DTB, I think your reasoning is right on the money, and that most people come to the same conclusion when faced with only one choice. About the test. . . This is a likely question. I passed the test Feb 2. You can expect about 10 Business Concepts questions which will include e-commerce terms and concepts.
