Yeah, which puts less of a laod on the server, Perl or PHP?

Definetely php

PERL is compiled every time the script needs to be executed and php, if compiled as Apache module, stays in RAM

php scripts are at approximately 10 times faster than PERL scripts and as many times less CPU demanding.
