Author calling all CompTIA IT Pro members

2001-01-16, 7:06 pm

I have posted a message on the CompTIA IT Pro message board asking what CompTIA is prepared to do about brainbumps. I would ask all CompTIA IT Pro members who are concerned about this phenomenon to also post a message stating their feelings and thoughts on this matter. If you are proud of what you have worked to attain and want your certificate to remain respected and valued, then I urge you to post a message.

Remember, braindumps violate the NDA, Microsoft and Cisco have taken steps to ensure the integrity of their certification programs, hopefully CompTIA will do the same.

Lets all get together on this one and stamp out the braindumps forever!

Hello there! Where is this board?
I was pissed when over the weekend I purchased some extra practice exams to see what area I might have missed on the test. Only to my dismay I recognized roughly at least 35 of the exact questions I had been asked on the exam.

VERBATUM!
and there could have been more...

Yeah I worked really hard to study this stuff with only the I-Net+ exam prep book and practice CD and the Measure UP site. I was disgusted to see that it made me ill.

I totally agree. As I said I will not name the site that offered those exams for a small $$ but I think they should crack down on it. This studying for the I-Net+ thing has gotten expensive. I mean my exam is $185 a whack and every time I fail it is more $$$. Not to mention the $2125.00 I spent for instructor led training and the cost of the I-Net+ exam Prep book and CD at $50 and the Measure Up site $99.00 That is a total of roughly $2700.00 I have spent to learn this!!!!! I don't want to see the actual questions. I obviously want to learn. I did not see such a thing at the Measure Up site and similar question but not quite on the I-Net Exam Prep CD. It is so frustrating.

What I don’t understand is how these people whom cheat even get jobs? I mean there has got to be people out there that KNOW what they are doing…. couldn’t they peg these people right away? I mean this is a lot of steep stuff to only pass by cheating and then actually do the work. Hopefully they are caught before doing any damage to an employer.

Even if Comptia does make changes and attempt to get these people whom are doing this, it still leaves all of us holding the bag. I mean.... I don’t want to walk into an employer with a certification only to have them ask me well, when did you actually take this exam. “Well that was before they implemented a new testing system to weed out the cheaters”, or something along those lines. So all of a sudden every bit of my money, hard work and study time done honestly is down the drain.

Comptia just better offer a free upgrade exam after they implement and tackle this issue…. because your right this Certification to the world will mean no more than a rubber check…

Just a bunk piece of paper with my name on it.

Thanks so much for the info! Please let me know what you find out!

I thourghly agree as well. It really hurts to see our efforts somewhat minimized by people who abuse the system.

The unfortunate part about this, is that as soon as CompTia gets rid of one site, three appear in its place, just like a weed.

The best thing that I can say is that if you truly know your subject, then does it matter what that person got as a score.

I have personally known people that have received their MCSE via braindumps and such, but have not gotten past the interview stage. Alot of times the interviewer will ask you to actually demonstrate hands-on knowledge.

I know where you are coming from when it comes to the cost of books, courses, exams, etc, etc.
To date I have invested just over $4000.00, I have spent countless nights devouring text books when my friends were going out. I have been doing this since last Aug and the thought that some people get away with just using 'dumps makes me ill. But the only concilation I have is that they won't get the jobs and if they do get the job they will be gone as fast as they got it.

I am still waiting for a reply from CompTIA as what their official policy is, since it is not posted anywhere on their web page. And I also asked them what they would do to enforce the NDA, when I get the offical answer I will post it here. If Microsoft can attempt to clean up the braindumps and decertify the cheaters, then can so CompTIA.

p.s. my original account is for some reason unable to post. they are looking into fixing it, I will use this ID until they fix my account.

Update.
Anyone that wants to report a suspect braindump site or any other possible violation of the NDA can submit the URL and/or other pertinent info to sshoup@comptia.org

Well probably one of the stranger things about dumps is that what is a dump exactly? Isnt the format of CompTIA's way of testing which is very different to say an MCSE (now) always going to be rather open to abuse. Also where does sharing general study information begin and dumping end, not to mention exam cram and the like. Many books have test engines attached to help with the experience are these dumps or does the way a question is phrased change it? Is it possible that you can memorise a test so completely that you can remember A from B? Even then what would your worth be in the jobs marketplace? This I fear is not a perfect world, full of imperfect people.
Rat Yeah

I have yet to find any brain dumps out there for the I-Net+.... although I did find suspiciously similar questions on a certain testing engine...I look at it like this

There are many people out there whom take shortcuts. But they get caught. Might not be by companies that say they are plagiarizing etc..or memorizing. They get caught when it comes to promotion time and they can't cut it.
I use testing engines but i make sure why I know the answer and in multiple choice situations I rule out the other answers by looking at each one and knowing why they are not correct, If I don't know then I look it up =]

This is the same situation as "paper cert." it is a redundant conversation...How you are able to handle it out their in the real world will be all the "certification" you need.
Good Luck everyone!
