I agree...at first my answer is SQL but then...the newer brighter future of XML popped in my head....I would say based on the way it is stated and the way they seem to want the questions answered..I am thinking SQL ...but it could be both...which is it?

All these languages are used to help HTML interact with data. But XML is the one that was created for that purpose.

SQL is used for database queries in general. I read somewhere that Java was originally developed as a language for inteligent machines. In other words, electromechanical machines that are controlled by microprocessors. Don't know the origins of Perl, but it is a general purpose language than can be used for a wide variety of purposes.

XML (eXtensible Markup Language, is a cousin to HTML and both are derived from SGML, (Standard Generalized Markup Language). As everyone who has ever used it knows, HTML is a little lame as a programming language. It's purpose is to enable web browsers to display web pages on whatever platform a user happens to be connecting to the web with. It also does a good job of providing Hypertext links. But people now expect much more than that from web pages. HTML requires help with the interactive features and and precise formating people want to see.

XML was specifically created for that purpose. Integrating data with HTML is only one of the benefits it offers.

Flynmonkie,

I checked out your site and it's really cool. I noticed you do Access. Do you do Visual Basic or VBA?

I used to do a lot of dBASE, (both dBASE II and dBASE III Plus). Learned to program in those languages and eventually switched to VB. You are too young to have spent much time with dBASE, but you have probably imported some dbf files into Access.

Like you, I really enjoy working with web pages and am especially attracted to XML. Hope to have time to learn more about it someday.

Best wishes.

you know what, that is one of the reasons I am going for certs...I don't know what I know lol

Yes I took a class in Visual basic in college and it seems with the database I use it..especially when I am tweaking it. Isn't that scripted VB?

Yeah well tht site was created in a total of about 15 minutes lol...but I wanted to get something out there. I will be doing more later...I started with web page building about 4 years ago and I do have a huge site Ijust took down...150 pages...many subjects. Mostly a photo album for all my friends whom have moved all around the world to keep up with things etc... it was fun..learned alot and even have my very first website that was a nightmare lol Ugliest thing you ever wanted to see! complet with .art files no one could view and Netscape brought it up in code lol!!! We have come a long way baby! but not based on the web page I have now..please don't look under its skirt it might scare ya =]

Isn't this one of the questions on Exam Drill?

And isn't the answer there - XML?

2001-01-19, 9:53 pm

Trebor,

Yes, it is on Exam Drill and XML is the answer. The essense of the question is, which one was "developed" for integrating data with HTML. Of the choices given, XML is the only one that meets that condition.

I'm not sure the i-NET+ exam has this question, but they have certainly been known to ask questions just as tricky as this one.
