Author Passed is passed

2001-01-05, 10:16 am

Well, as someone said on this forum not so long ago. "Passed is passed"
I passed this morning with 84%. Very disappointing considering all of the prep I did for this one.

Just to blow off some steam I would like to say that some of the questions were very ambiguous.

For instance:
What does CSS stand for? -

everyone knows in web design context it is Cascading Style Sheet and in security context is Commercial Secure Server. Both options were offered and no qualification of the context was offered.

Also I was shown a paragraph of Java script and asked "what would this do?" Exam Cram from Coriolis left me high and dry in that area.

I would like to thank all the great brains that discuss on this forum- Freak, Peterkett, Brownie, Crescent, Gareth etc etc..

Congrats on your pass.

In my opinion on the CSS, I think that the answer they want is Cascading Style Sheet.

What's next than?

Great job!!!!
I have always respected your questions. They always made ya think.
I test at 3:30 today.
Any last minute advice?

2001-01-05, 1:27 pm

I don't quite know what is next. I was hoping for some input from you guys.

I know the usual suggestion is CCNA but I have no access to high-level equiptment, I work full time (about a zillion hours a week) in my own private school teaching something completely IT unrelated so I wouldn't even have time to visit classes even if they were offered here in the IT boondocks.

My goal is a career change within 3 to 9 months so I think I will keep up my self taught certification binge. Maybe MSCE (even though they are a "dime a dozen" )

Any advise would be appreciated.

PS: Exam Drill was a great help.

How much did examdrill do for you?

2001-01-05, 1:33 pm

Brownie, my friend, if I could take the exam over in one hour from now I would go back to a thread I posted on this forum about two weeks ago about Client/Server side scripting and take what ThisChick and Bob R. say to heart.

I wish you lots of luck.

great job buddy! I am pumped for you.
I agree that a passs is a pass.
CCNA w/ out taking a class is tough. I don't recommend it.
MCSE? then make sure to have a couple of machines running the OS and play as much as you can...
Let me know if I can help...

If the minimum wasn't good enough, there wouldn't be a minimum.

Good job and Congrats!

trebor congratulations! I know what you mean by ambiguous questions, especially the Java script one (never did figure out what the correct answer was, but I think it has something to do with copyright - who knows).

Yes most people say go for CCNA next, but my instructors advised to do Network+ first just to get a solid foundation from which I could go on to CCNA. They weren't just trying to sell me another course, they just didn't want me to start something that could be very difficult to finish unless you have the network basics. So maybe you could start with that, then go to CCNA or MCSE or whatever else you might be interested in.

Hey Trebor,

Congratulations!

You did great. Lots of people fail this test the first time. Those who have a significant amount of actual web site development and Internet experience may say it's easy. But "easy" is a relative thing.

If someone is learning this technology from the beginning so they can enter the field in an entry level job, it's NOT easy. People who have the experience and already know the material may think it's easy. But for the rest of us, the exam covers a lot of info it's very difficult to try to learn it in a short time.

Best wishes.

Thanks for those kind words. You are all very ecouraging.
Believe me without this forum and the one on Freak's site to discuss (and interpret) questions I would have been lost.

Freak I have 3 computers I built for the A+, then networked for the Net+. (you should see my living room) I will have to get my hands on the Win 2000 OS now.

What about Java Certification! =] LOL

2001-01-10, 7:43 pm

Gratuliere, Trebor. I passed CCNA with only using the router simulator from Boson, but even so it was a hard exam. But still quite passable. With those extra computers lying around you may just want to get a copy of the Win2K OS and try playing around with it for a while, and see which cert appeals to you more. Tchuss.

Thanks for the input Randy and very funny Flynmonkey. (Wizard of OZ fan by any chance?)

That is pretty impressive that you passed CCNA with only a router simulator. That is a success story which gives me confidence.

But you are right I have got to get WIN2000. To tell the truth my three computers which I built with spare parts from ebay don't meet the mimimum requirements for win2K so I have been scratching together the $$$ for a better system, $400 for Win 2K, $150-200 for the book(s).

Here, let me save you some money:

Look at the study books available. Some books come with a 120 day evaluation copy of W2k to play with so you don't have to spend $400 on W2k. (The Microsoft MSCE Training Kit Core Requirements is one possibility. You can get it from http://www.bookpool.com for about $120.)

If you're a student, go to http://www.journeyed.com You can get a full copy of W2k Professional for $120 plus shipping. (You do need to present proof, such as a current student schedule from a college or high school. If you're a teacher, just send a copy of your paycheck.)

Thanks for saying I've been helpful! It really made my day!

I love it Crescent when people save me money. I am going to check that out right away.

Thanks.
