Routing Protocol Question
| On one of the tests at http://www.worldinter.net/~carroll/exam.htm
the author summarizes RIP and OSPF by saying that RIP selects a route based on # of hops, while OSPF selects based on route with most available bandwidth. I have never heard them summarized like this before, can anyone confirm this? | |
| That is correct, and I quote: "The two most common routing protocols are RIP and OSPF. RIP (routing information protocol) performs route discovery based on hops, or the number of routers that must be crossed to reach various segments. OSPF (open shortest path first) bases its routing calculations on the available bandwidth rather than hops.....". | |

| Thanks Keith. What was the reference you found that in? |
