| OK guys, right now Im furious with one of my work mates. He tells me that CompTIA certs are not worth crap. He keeps telling me that they are a waste of time. He does think that A+ might be worth getting, but that Network+ and I-Net+ arent worth the paper they put it on. This has made me furious with him.
I do have a MCSE. I am planning on taking the I-Net+ soon. Am I wasting my time? I know that MCSE is valued more than CompTIA certs, so should I be going after the CompTIA certs? Are they worth getting?
He tells me that they are easy. Anyone could pass them. And I know they are geared towards people with little experience, but does that mean that they are worthless? I take alot of time in studying and yes, alot of it is repetative to me. Ive seen it before. But does that mean I should not pursue them? What do you guys think. I am stuggling with this. Do employers not really give a rats butt about CompTIA certs? If this is true, then why have them? I really need your imput on this. This has really made me soo "phucking" mad!!! Please let me know what you guys think that employers think about each of the CompTIA exams. I need to know this. Thanks in advance.

| I think you are letting someone get to you. This is your career and your life pursue what you want.
As for my opinion on ALL certifications... Do I hire someone because they have an MCSE or i-Net --- Nope. They have a better chance of getting the interview but if they can't answer my questions then they are no better then the uncertified. Will I pay someone more because they have their MCSE and i-Net, probably not.
So why get the certifications. Frankly, I think it helps us to learn. Preparing for exams gets us to focus on certain topics and information. The i-Net is one of my favorite currently because it is just great entry level information about the Internet. If you do get this certification and pass one exam you can be a CIW Master Administrator. This is a special program from CIW, the leaders in Internet Certifications, for individuals with their MCSE or Novell certification called i-Accelerate.
Bottom line, if you are learning and the certification helps you grow in your career and focus on a path then screw your co-worker. This certification is widely accepted by IBM and other major corporations. Your buddy sounds like the type that is to complacent in his own skill set to grow and move on...
