Best Books for I-Net?
|
|
|
| Hey,
I plan to take this exam, can anyone recommend any good study materials/books? And you think 2 months should prepare me for the test (given that I study real hard!)?
Thanks,

| Two months seems to be about right. At least it was in my case. I passed the exam yesterday.
I used a couple of different books: i-Net+ for Dummies, Sam's Learn Networking in 24 hours, i-Net+ Exam Cram, many practice tests (including the ones on the CD that comes with the Dummies book), the brain dumps here and a lot of help from the nice folks who hang around this forum and who are always willing to help. There is a lot of on-line help available from different organizations that you should make use of too.
In my opinion, stay away from the Syngress books. Sybex seem to be the best, but I am sure there are others that are just as good, if not better.
Take the brain dumps with a grain of salt, and research everything they contain. The idea is to understand the material and not just memorize the questions and answers. Most of the questions on the questions are verbatim from the dumps. Just watch the final wording.
I found the test to not be very hard, but again, watch very closely the wording used on the test. They are out to trick you.
Good luck with your learning experience. Ask anything you are not sure of here and somebody will be happy to give you a hand.
On to Network+ and CIW...

| Hey RickF,
Thanks for taking the time to answer my concerns...appreciated!
Do you mind I ask you some more? What's the format of the exam? Just one part and with mutiple choice like A+?
And heard a lot about Sybase book for i+Net, is it really good? If yes, I am going to buy that. Do you think that's good enough? Or should I also get the Dummies and ExamCram? Please advise. I spent too much on A+, hence, hope to save some $$$ on this!
Thanks,

| The test was 72 questions, all multiple choice. I don't remember any being "pick the best two" or anything like that. I have not taken the A+ yet; that is planned for a little closer to the end of the year.
I am trying to remember if I have ever taken a look at any Sybase books...you might take a look at some of the other questions concerning liked and disliked books that other people have posted here. I only have the experience with the one bad one - the Syngress brand. I avoid that brand like the plague. Can't go wrong with Dummies (written especially for me) or the Sybex.
I also have spent a small fortune on books for the A+ only to learn that it is all going to change soon. I am deciding whether or not to wait till the new tests come out or go ahead and take it before the end of December.
I also was going to mention an on-line, instructor led course on A+ (which you don' need) and also on the Network+. It is totally free and pretty neat. The URL is www.leapit.com and I found that much of the material in the Network+ course is appropriate for the i-Net+.I am using those courses now, and other than the instructor for the Network+ being dull, I have learned a lot from them.
Another great source of help is in the form of Augie's Flash Cards. I don't have the URL handy for that (it is posted here someplace) but I suggest you download them, print it out, spend a couple of hours cutting them out and use 'em. They were a big help. I think there are about 235 of them, so cutting them will be a chore.
Good luck, and if I can be of any help, just let me know.

| thesky7,
i used i-Net+ study guide by David groth (Sybex) and found it quite usefull in preparing for I+ exam.
some of the guys in this forum also used the same book for the exam!!
i think i've said this before:
if you are an experienced internet user, you'll most likely pass the exam.
I took NT Server 4 exam months ago, then Network+ , then I+.
I'd say taking N+ first is very usefull in preparing for the I+ -> some materials are discussed in both exams...
hope that helps...
good luck!!!

| So, if I take Net+ first, I would have to buy Mike Meyers' book and i+Net will be Sybex? (heard from people around here!)
If that is the case, I would go ahead and buy those books after I done on my A+ DosWin tomorrow! By the way, there is only one paper/part for each of the exam right? Not like A+, has 2 parts!
Any good places or resources for additional study material/info for those 2 exams?
Rick, thanks for the COOL link on www.leapit.com. Registered and will start taking learn!
Weblord, was the Net+ easy? Envy you, had so many cert exams!!!
Again, thank you for your time.
