Thanks guys...
Oh **** , only 18 hrs to go !?!

Hi.

I failed the test by the worst way possable. I failed the test by 1%. God damn, I'm so frustrated that I failed by one percent. It's nothing but it means I don't get a certificate. Now I have to somehow get the money neccessary to do the test again.

2000-11-13, 4:32 pm

Yup, that blows. On the other hand, it means that you are not that far. Do you know what areas were problematic? Do you have any specific questions? Surely we can help!

Hi freak,

OK, here i go..

(1)I seen that after the exam, i went down on my i-net basics, so i just want to try clear things up.
http://www.cni.ie/exam/practice/homework.htm:80

The http:// is the protocal www.cni.ie is the domain name / FQDN
exam/practice is the path
homework.htm is the file name
:80 is the port number

... what is a socket ?... what's the difference between a socket and URL ?

(2)Also another thing I went down on was, in search engines, what situation would you use "keyword text", and "full text" ? Whats the difference ?

(3)Another tricky question I got was: "Which is least secure from OUTSIDE ATTACKS ?

1) Internet
2) Intranet
3) Extranet
4) Private Network "

Now My first taught was "1) internet", but then i taught about the wording of the question, "outside attack", which made me think they were talking about the Extranet, because of attack from the internet.. I was'nt sure about the internet as an answer as I was confused if the internet could be attacked from the outside ? (if there is an outside)

I chose my answer as Extranet, I don't even know if it was right ??

Thanks in advance...
(ps) if i think of more questions, I'll get back to you !!

2000-11-13, 6:56 pm

(4) Is VBscript and Javascript only run on the client, and on the server side, there is ASP, cgi, c++ ... (if there is anymore, will you please add them !)

(5) A certificate server is for .... and do I need private and public keys for it ?

(6) If i create a website and publish it, do I have to wait till I register with the copyright industry, for me to put a copyright simble on the pages ?, or can i put the copyright symble on my webpages when I am designing and making them ?

Right, I think thats enough for the mo,
Thanks in advance !!!

I failed today also by 1%, I work so damn much I commute on the train and would try to study while I commute,I was freakin nervous also, I have yet to take a test online or in the study guides that I have not been able to pass, I get in front of the real test and blew it. I feel your pain, the good thing is we do get to try again, the bad thing is it costs so a lot of $$$$.
Good Luck

Sorry guys. Don't give up.

To Ando:-

1. I'm not sure about the question you're asking. Socket is something like TCP ports which is used by older browser.

2. Keyword text - search for the keywords you've enter. Full text - search by the words you've enter as a whole.

3. Internet - Easiest for Outside Attacker to attack your website.

4. Javascript - Client-side scripting.

5. Certificate Server - generate the public & private keys. No keys for the server.

6. You don't need to register for copyright when you post your website on the internet.

Hope this can help.

Thanks ppl. I'm doing the test again on Friday !!, i'll get back to you to tell you how i got on !!

2000-11-14, 1:35 pm

Good luck to yah Ando! I'm pretty sure you'll pass. I personally found the test very difficult and was unsure whether i passed or failed. I passed with a 75%. Not exactly perfect but it still gets me the paper eh? Again, hope you pass.

Hi again. I have a few questions that are still a bit iffy in my head…..
I have got answers of these questions from different sources, but the answers they all gave me were different !! I don’t know if the answers are right or wrong. Please can somebody set the record straight and tell me what the right answer is for them:

1) Trademark applies to: (a) Ad slogans OR (b) graphics other than logos
2) “Host unreachable” = DNS problem ??? yes or no ???
3) “Destination unreachable”= Gateway problem ???? Yes or no ??
4) If you are searching for a phrase on a search engine, do you use “keyword index” or “full text index”.

Thanks

2000-11-16, 9:21 am

Also, if you want to put a contest on your website, do you use either :

(a) Flash

(b) Shockwave

My lecturer said it was shockwave, but i am getting flash as a answer from many others ??
PLease tell me which is the right on ??

2000-11-16, 9:34 am

My answers to your questions would be the following:

1) Trademark applies to graphics other than logos
2) “Host unreachable” = DNS problem yes
3) “Destination unreachable”= Gateway problem Yes
4) If you are searching for a phrase on a search engine, you use “full text index”. (Not 100% sure on this one)

Also, if you want to put a contest on your website, do you use either :
(a) Flash
(b) Shockwave
For this question I think it depends.... as for interactivity you would use Shockwave and for fancy graphics you would use flash... draw your own conclusions from there.. I would at a push say Shockwave for this one.

Good Luck

Hi all, YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOO

I passed with 80% !!!!!!!!!!

Yes, its such a relief to finally pass. The last three days have been so looooooooong and the pressure was unbelivable. But now that it's finally over, i can get down to some serious drinking !! LOL

To THOR: I really apreciate your cramstudy page at :
http://www.examnotes.net/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000417.html

It really helped me a looooooooooot !!
Pity about other people in my class that failed for a second time. Feel sorry for 'em.

I have to say that the test was a lot harder than expected. If you pass, it's not really because of how good you are with computers, it's really about how good your understanding of the english language is.
If the questions where asked in simpler form (more realistic), i would of probably got a fair few more questions right.

Also, I really taught this question i got was really unfair :

Q) What does CSS stand for:
1) Cascading style sheets
2) Comercially secure server

I mean, what the hell was that about?? There should of been a bit more to the question like "in realation to:"
CSS means the two of them ??
Most of the test is really about how "lucky" you are at picking answers !!

Anyway, Back to the reason I wrote:

yahhhhhhhhhhhhoooooooooooooooo
.
Just want to say thanks for everyone's support and help. All I have to do now is my CIW, NETWORK+, and WIN2K tests !!

See yas

Congrats on your pass. This is exciting news! As for the CSS question. this is an internet related cert, therefore the Style Sheets answer makes sense, more so than the Commercial Secure Server, which, quite frankly, does not really exist anyway
So what is next for you?

Thanks freak and gareth !!

freak, hopefully i will be doing the CIW next, before christmas I hope to get it. I heard that CIW is an add-on to i-Net !! Do you know if it is as hard as i-net or easier ??
Then after christmas, My class are suppose to do net+ and Win2K.

I don't know much about the CIW. I looked into it a while ago and thought that the books were not written very well, so we decided to support the i-Generation track instead. For more details, you can look at www.igeneration.com
Whatever you do, I am sure that your study ethics will bring you far!

HEY THOR, thanks for all the input into these forums. How about network+, is the examcram book any good?

2000-11-21, 4:21 pm

Hey Brownie... no problem.. glad that I can be of help. I have not done the N+ exam but I have used the Exam Cram series for all the exams that I have done and found them excellent.

They suit me as I want a book that focuses on what will be in the exam and doesn't fluff up the details as I have been working in IT field for a time and just need to know what will be focused on.

Agreed.. Exam Cram is a very good book to use. I actually read the whole thing. It does seem to skip a few topics, but the forums here are terrific and fill in all the gaps.

The Cram page here is great. Use it and investigate the topics you are unclear on.

I only have one disagreement so far...

Graphics other than logos should be copyright not trademark.

Bridge vs Router questions drive me up a wall too. Not what is the difference between the two but how the question is worded!

These forums are great... Thank you all!
