After the sweating and stressing!

| 4 months of staying up night and day sending resumes to hundreds of potential employers. Going on countless interviews and never getting the call backs I was promised. I really started to think something was seriously wrong with me, and for the first time in my life I started to doubt myself.
I never really thought someone as strong as me, someone that has been through so much could ever get to such a low level.
But I never stop saying to myself "I WILL GET A JOB", because "I KNOW I AM NOT STUPID". Well I went on an interview tuesday with an ISP company for an Internet Engineering position (basically provided support to their customers and setting up servers and dealing with their internal networking issues). I did well on the interview like all the other interviews I went on. I answered all the technical questions, etc. I was told that I would reveive a call Wednesday, so I waited, I did not receive that call. I figured I did not get the job, well today I recieved an email and when I opened it the manager offered me the position and said I should call him tomorrow.
So to everyone that feels like they are all
alone in this world trying to get the elusive JOB, my advise to you is to never stop trying , you will get one. Go on those interviews, so you get a feeling as what things employers are looking for and the questions they will ask you.
Well I want to get my I-net+ before next wednesday, so I am off to the books.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU. I KNOW SOME OF YOU KNOW WHAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH AND SOME OF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH IT NOW.

| Good to hear a story like yours. It does make me feel better. | |
|
| hey Cuts,
it's good to hear u got the job. I like to ask you. Do you have to have real computer working experience to get the job?
thanks | |
|
| Basically this is a summary of my resume.
I have a bachelors degree in computer and information science/graduated 05/2000.
A+ certified-08/2000
Network+ certified-09/2000
should be i-net+ certified-11/2000
1 month internship with training center I did my A+ with. Did network troubleshooting,pc config, software install, etc.
5 month cooperative learning job through my school, but that was a WEB SITE TECHNICIAN position.
5 month cooperative learning job through my school, but that was as an assistant web developer.
And while I was working these jobs and going to school I was working at sears from 04/98 to 05/2000 as a sales rep.
I just spoke with the manager for the company and I will start on monday. I am not getting paid what I thought I would get paid coming out of school with my degree, but after finishing up school and trying to find a job, I found out very quickly that a degree does not guarantee **** . If you don't have any hardcore hookup with some company's you simple ain't getting in.
Well I really don't have any experience, So I am LUCKY AS **** to have gotten this job, I will buss my butt to learn what I have to and
will not quit this job until I have an offer for another job. I dont' want to go through this experience again and would never wish it on anyone. I live at home with my mom and I have my fiance that has supported me emotionally and financially when I needed it.
But I understand that there are people out there that have families that are trying to get into the field, my advise is to have a job and look for something in your I.T. while you are working.
I REPEAT DO NOT QUIT A JOB TO LOOK FOR ANY JOB IN THE I.T. field unless you have more that 3 years experience in what ever you are applying for, you might end up commiting suicide if you are not strong.
ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT I FEEL SO LUCKY.
I ASK THE MANAGER WHY HE HAD PICKED ME AND HE SAID THAT I SEEMED VERY EAGER TO LEARN, ENTHUSIASTIC, AND GET THIS HE LIKED THE FACT THAT I WORKED AT SEARS FOR 2 YEARS PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE, BECAUSE THAT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS OF MY JOB. YOU KNOW
WHAT I WAS PLANNING ON NOT EVEN PUTTING SEARS ON MY RESUME, BECAUSE I THOUGH IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING IN THE I.T. FIELD, TURNS OUT I WAS WRONG AND THAT IS WHAT MADE ME GET THE JOB.
HE SAID I HAVE A LOT TO LEARN< BUT HE FEELS THAT I WILL EXCEL HE SAID THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS WILL BE ALL ABOUT LEARNING.
HE ASK ME TWO TECHNICAL QUESTIONS
HOW DO YOU FIND THE IP ADDRESS OF YOUR WORK STATION?
I SAID WHAT OPERATING SYSTEM ARE YOU USING?
HE SAID WINDOWS 98 and I said you would use the winipcfg, he said your right.
Then he asked my how do you set up a client email account?
I said you need the user name and password and you need to know the names of the incoming and outgoing server names for example.
smtp.erols.com
pop3.erols.com
and that was it. | |

| Good for you, friend. Great gig!
BTW, you are right. Sears experience will not amount to anything in the IT world. But the position you [purused in this case is widely regarded as Customer Service first, and technical second because HR managers don't know the IT side of things. I worked as a manager for the firm that does tech support for Microsoft, Prodigy, etc... and that is exactly the angle they have!
