Author How can i find work??

2000-09-26, 11:15 pm

I am A+ and Network+ certified , currently preparing for the Inet+ . I cannot find work in the IT industry!! I am prepared to start at the bottom , do anything to get out of retail hell that i have been stuck in for the past 6 years . I have applied to 100's of junior IT related jobs , helpdesk etc and have had no luck so far . I am beginning to think that mabye my age has got something to do with my lack of success . I am 28 .
Anybody got any advice for me , good news hopefully as i am really down in the dumps
Certification - Whats it all for ???

I was in the same position as you 6 months ago. Actually working in London on my OE for 2 years (Finchley Central). Anyway was working in accounts and saw the money that the IT guys were earning and just had to have a peice of it.

I finished my A+ 5 months ago and landed a job on the helpdesk of an ISP. I have gained wicked experience and now been offered a full time position with the company as well as another offer.

My advice is to keep sticking at it and something will pop up. With both certs you will get a kick *** job in no time!!

Not sure what the job market's like in England, but here it can be as tough. A lot to do with Geography. I live in an area where the employers are cheap-skates. They get away with it because of the amount of IT pro's in the area. Everyone needs work, so they can get someone to take less.

I'm 37 and I wonder sometimes if my age has something to do with it also! hah hah!

Esexon,
Keep up with your job hunting...I know how you feel because I'm in the same situation. I've been looking for a job since June...got a few interview, never had any offer but it's not gonna stop me...
you can be upset...but do not give up...also
its not about age. Its jut your attitude of willing to learn and work hard

Good luck

I say keep on looking, it took me forever to find a job when i got out of college. there are lots of job searches out there. I don't know if these sights will help you:

monster.com, hotjobs.com, dice.com (for IT careers), jobsummit.com. give it a try and good luck.

Age is not the issue. I am 29 and have been employed in this industry for 5 years.
Keep on looking, or do as I did: move to the US and get yourself a cool job -- I am originally from France
Good luck to you,
