| hi all im new to this forum so i just wanna say hello to everyone, also i hope im posting this in the correct place if ot im sorry,k im doing my a+ at the moment and one of the questions is (how much memory would be required to display a resolution of 1280 by 1024 pixels at a 16 bit color depth)
1,310,720 bits
1,310,720 bytes
2,621,440 bytes
20,971,520 bytes
i have looked on google but with everything ive read i cant seem to understand how they work this out any help most apreciated as this is holding me back at the moment thanks in advance mlr

| One aspect of studying for t he A+ is improving your google search capabilities. It's all out there... the trick is to find it. In this case I searched for "video memory"+"16 bit" . Give it a try.
Best of luck in your studies. Come back often. We're here to help.

| mlr:
while Supertech's link provides a great resource, make sure that you understand how to calculate these numbers. It's way easier than memorizing a table.
For a resolution of 1280 pixels x 1024 pixels, there are (1280*1024) = 1,310,720 total pixels.
16-bit color depth means that each pixel requires 16 bits of memory to store its color info, so 1,310,720 * 16 = 20,971,520 bits of memory.
Don't jump in and pick option D, because option D is in bytes, and my calculation is in bits.
Instead, take 20,971,520 / 8 to get 2,621,440 bytes - option C and the same as in the table on the link.
To take the exercise further:
2,621,440 bytes / 1024 = 2,560 Kilobytes
2,560 Kilobytes / 1024 = 2.5 megabytes
