What's the first thing you should always look at when troubleshooting a PC?

(hint: it is the most common cause of failure)

I'd check out the power supply or the motherboard. Go with the power supply first. Also might check the fan.

Thanks
no, not yet

I test the power supply by installing another known-working one.

I didn't test the board till now, how?

if it wont post your board is dead. If your power supply is working your board should give you beep codes for whatever is failing. mem, cpu, video card all have beep codes. So it is safe to say that if your board wont post at all then its dead. =(

Don't overlook the speaker make sure it is connected ,wont hear many beeeeeeps without it.Also Taking the all pc aparts ,clean well check carefully ,rebuild it outside the case if possible .It doesn't look good for sys/brd if the speaker is OK.Good luck and also if you have plugable prom on mobo squeeze it it will crunch in,easier if board is out to add bottom pressure on it .Best of luck.

I might be in left field here, but I had a motherboard once that had the same symptoms and I cleared my cmos and everything started up and worked fine.

Try a new CMOS battery. If that doesn't work, your mobo is dead.
