Author internet explorer does not run after SP2 install

Can anyone help with this one? After an internet install of XP home SP2 the internet explorer will open but immediately shuts down, as does AIM. MSN Messenger still seems to connect though. I have turned off the firewall and set security levels to low, but this does not seem to work. I have also uninstalled explorer and reinstalled it, still not working.

I then went to add/remove programs, uninstalled SP2 (after trying many other things) but exploer STILL does not work! It was working fine before the SP2 install.

Any ideas?
