| After intalling service pack 2 for Windows XP at start up this error message occurs.
"Direct Access Component has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Has anyone else seen this prolem?

| Yes, I saw that problem on two computers. Did you get an error during installation?
You can run the OS repair from the install disk, that will get you back into the OS. Backup all the files and do a clean install of the OS. Then install SP2 before getting any patches from MS.
That is what worked for me.

| Thanks for your response Freddy!
There was no error message during the install, but the error message occurs each time after I log in. I can close the message and still do some work, but sometimes it forces me to close in the middle of things.

| Well I found it. After doing a Google search of the error code I found the HP DVD burner driver needed to be updated to be compatible with SP2. Everything is working great now. Hope this helps if anyone else runs into this problem. |
