Hi jettierat. Good to see you are still at it

The redirector is the piece of client software that intercepts resource input/output (I/O) requests and checks to see if the request is local or remote(i.e. a network resource). It then directs the request to the appropriate local or networked resource.

There are various redirectors out there, Microsofts client for Microsoft networks, Microsoft client for Novell networks, Novell's client 32, and Intranetware client,etc...

Redirectors basically do the same thing regardless of the manufacturer.

Hope this helps!

Hey Spid....

Whats goin on..??

I would like to write the question I have out of a "dump", but I do not know if I can becouse Microsoft is going after people who discuss info about the exam etc....I do not know if this question is strait off the exam or what...???

Now, I am not relying on the dump that I have. I am using it as reference along with the books I have, and its been a big help.

Lets put it this way....

I migrated accounts from my old Netware server to a new NT sever, of course I used Nwlink. Users can not access thier files. My boss, a "Paper MCSE" (ha ha) told me to use "Microsoft Redirector", and or FPNW.

Is he right..???

I hope you can figure out what I am talking about......

I know I may be "Paranoid", but I would rather be safe than sorry.......

Thanks for your help and anybody elses input too......

Ahhh.... ya, I know what you are talking about and yes he is correct.

You can attack the problem from different directions, a server-side solution and/or a client side solution. so if the question is asking you to "select all that apply" you would need to select both solutions if they are listed.

FPNW will solve the problem from a server-side solution it "fools" (real technical term there) the Netware clients into believing they are accessing the files on an NT server as if they were located on a Netware server.

The client side solution would be to install the Microsoft redirector on the each of the Netware client systems. With this redirector installed, the NT server will field the requests and permit the Netware clients to access the files.

Hope this Helps!!

HEY SPID......

As usual, you take something that is incomprehensable and simplify it......

I said it once and I will say it again. If you wrote a textbook on Windows 2000, like the exam cram or microsoft press books, and I will buy it......

Some people have an innate ability to break things down and explain things in practical terms, and SPID, you got it.....

Thanks again for your help.....
