Single Master Domain Model
|
|
|
| The New Riders book states:
"This model is recommended for domains having
fewer than 20,000 user accounts and 40,000
overall accounts" about this domain model
One of the Exam Essentials questions I just
did said they accomodate 40,000 user a/c's
I'm assuming that the New Riders book is
correct, considering a User Account occupies 1KB of space and the SAM database limit=40MB
(which wouldn't leave any room for computer
or group a/c's - going w/ Essentials figures)
Just was hoping to get verification from someone who wrote the test and answered
similar question correctly
Tks in advance | |

| For a Single Domain Model, the PDC and each BDC can support 2000 user accounts to validate user logons and provide fault tolerence.
A network can use the Single Domain model if it has a small enough number of users and groups to ensure good performace,
(Generally up to 26,000)
(For 40,000 users you are looking at a Single Master Domain)
I got this information from "Supporting Windows NT Server in the Enterprise"
(Microsoft Press) Pg. 11
I believe it to be correct. If not, please inform me asap becouse I will soon take the exam.
Good luck.....

| Sorry, I though you wanted info on Single Domain Model.
Your info appears to be correct, for a "Single Master Domain Model", I have
Organizations with fewer than 40,000 domain accounts.
Centralized account management.
Decentralized resource management or local system administration capability.
I think in Rav_Ian braindump I saw (26,000 to 40,000 users for Single Master Domain. I did not find the (26,000) in the Microsoft Press book...So I can not confirm if the (26,000) is correct.
Good Luck...!!!

| Tks for the input jettierat
After reading your posts I got curious and
decided to check the Microsoft Official Cirriculum book I have for Enterprise
(I read it a while ago, and decided to
read the New Riders before writing for a different point of view)
I did find a page in MOC where it states:
"NOTE: The single domain model and the single master domain model can accomodate at least 26,000 user accounts if both user accounts and computer accounts are stored in the database"
So...now I'm ASSuming that if the question
states 40,000 users (or less) that you MUST choose either the single domain or single master domain model?
(w/ the deciding factor being whether or not you need distributed resource mgmt)
[The way I was thinking previously was if there were say 37,000 users, I would choose
the multiple master domain model - based on the assumption that the computer and group
a/c's needed would bring me past the 40MB SAM
database limit!]
You know, I've heard people say this is a difficult exam, and now I see why. It's not so much the material, I'm pretty sure I understand what I've read so far, it's just
too open to interpretation!
Well maybe I'm speaking too soon (since I'm
not even half done w/ the book!)
Well, since you'll probably write before I do, Good Luck
(sorry for the long post!)

| Speedy_j.....
I think you are correct in regards to the question about the 37,000 users and you must choose either single or single master domain model......
I am not %100 sure about the correct answer myself. I do wish Microsoft would clarify some of the more vague concepts in all there exams.....
May take exam today......
will post more stuff tonight if I am not wallowing in a bottle of Jack Daniels.....
ha ha ha.....
good luck to Ya....
