Author Question on PDC placement

2000-12-29, 6:00 pm

You have four different locations. All have BDC's. Attempt diagram below:

|Dom1|--T1 line--|Dom2|--T1 line--|Dom3|--ISDN line--|Dom4|

Which domain would you place the PDC?

I seen this Q on my exam, so I put near the ISDN , which is in Tokyo site, the third (DOM3) from your diagram, so synch. effects can travel faster to the other end of ISDN, but I am not sure how others do it?? Please let us know everyone if you see this?? Thanks!

I THOUGHT PLACING THE PDC WOULD HAVE MORE TO DO WITH THE DOMAIN MODEL RATHER THAN THE SPEED OF THE LINE.IS IT SIMPLE,MASTER,MULTIPLE MASTER OR COMPLETE TRUST?..DO NOT FORGET THE IDEA BEHIND IT IS SIMPLY REDUCING THE TRAFFIC.AND PDC SIMPLY SHOULD BE PLACED WHERE THE ACCOUNTS HELD.SO WITH ADDITIONAL BDC IN EACH BRANCH YOU CAN REDUCE THE TRAFFIC THAT WOULD BE CAUSED WHEN ALL CLIENTS TRY TO LOG ON.SO HAVE A LOOK AT THE DOMAIN MODEL FIRST AND SEE WHICH DOMAIN IS THE MASTER OR ACCOUNTS DOMAIN BEFORE ANSWERING THIS ONE.

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

if you have 3 or 4 domains, you need as many PDCs anyway, so which PDC is the one you are talking about? Also we need to knoe the domain model this question refers to...

If I recalled correctly, the question is that you have 4 remote sites and making up a "Single Domain model", only ONE PDC, then where do you put that PDC at what site best replication?? So how do you guys do it?? I knew that I flunk on this Q for sure but wish that anyone post the right answer here for others to prepare, thanks a lot guys.

Have a nice weekend, and Happy new year 2001 (No more Y2K bugs!!) hehehe

To ensure you get the best possible help I think this question needs to be restated more accuratly because it leaves the possability of to many different answers based on how you interpret it. I'm sure the people at these Forums get as much as a buzz from helping other colleages as they do from passing Exams but they can only do it if they are given as much correct info as possible.

Anyway wishing you and everybody a happy NEW YEAR.

now i am confused here...how can you have 4 domains in single domain model?..surely this question refers to SINGLE MASTER DOMAIN MODEL,so you should install the PDC in the master domain ,and not to resource domains.instead you install BDCs to resource domains to ease the traffic.so the way this question goes the only model i can think of that will work with a single PDC is the SINGLE MASTER MODEL unless there is something else involved in the question and obviously we do not know whatever it is.

If you have only ONE domain and several LOCATIONS, then it is nore interesting to know where the place the BDCs than the PDC, which should always be placed where the centralized IT is located, or where you have the best WAN Links to the other sites...
