| Since no one seems to know the answer on my previous post, and after reading your posts to the other dude...you seem to know enough about WINS....So can you tell me if WINS has anything to do with Exchange Server? you have to read my previous post to understand where I`m coming from.
Thanks for your help! Mike

| Is the question you were talking about?
this was base on London-Mexico format, but worded way differently)Exchange server here somewhere....
Users in Mexico are bitching,
Proposed Solution:
Add a BDC to Mexico
Put LMhosts on Mexico w/s
PUt LMhosts on PDC and BDC
Assign static IP addresses to Mexico w/s
a. reduce logon traffic over the WAN
b. reduce WINS traffic over the WAN
c. reduce TCP/IP address assignment over the WAN
d. reduce mail server traffic
Mike, I don't think WINS would speed up the email in any way. I think it would be a,b, and c

| Well WINS doesn't have anything directly to do with an Exchange servers email performance. Well, as far as I've ever seen.
I do know in a situation where IP addresses are being assigned dynamically via DHCP, computers running Microsoft Exchange Server with RAS installed that are set up to dial each other will require the use of WINS to handle name resolution for the changing ip address assignments. A static LMHOSTS file just won't cut it in that scenario.
But that's getting a little deep, and really geared more towards an Exchange question in my opinion In fact, it really doesn't even apply to your question.
I'm babbling, sorry about that. I need a beer.
Hope this helps.

| Thanks for that info, and yes zikini that was the question and I think MS threw that it to confuse me, what got me was that one domain had an Exchange server and the other didn`t...well I had 4 choices (multiple choice) and one of them said: "reduce mail server traffic " or something like that.
