Q. I have passed two of the Windows NT 4.0 exams, but I am not yet certified as an MCSE. Which makes more sense: beginning the Windows 2000 track now, or completing my MCSE in Windows NT 4.0?
A. The Windows NT 4.0 exams will retire December 31, 2000. MCSEs who are certified in the Windows NT 4.0 exams will have until December 31, 2001, to become certified in the new Windows 2000 track and retain certification. If you are still supporting Windows NT 4.0 and expect to do so for some time, you may decide it makes sense to complete the Windows NT 4.0 track and upgrade to the Windows 2000 track later. The knowledge and skills set tested by the Windows NT 4.0 exams are applicable for migrating to a Windows 2000 environment. However, if your employer or clients are planning to upgrade to Windows 2000 soon, you may decide to make the transition to the Windows 2000 track now.
Q. If I have passed all core exams in the Windows NT 4.0 MCSE track by December 31, 2000, but have not yet passed my elective exams by that date, can I still continue to earn my certification?
A. Yes, if you have passed all core exams in the Windows NT 4.0 MCSE track exams by December 31, 2000, you may continue to earn your MCSE certification in the Windows NT 4.0 track, as long as the electives you select have not retired.
