Author Passed 966 and a Job Interview right after

2000-06-24, 11:20 pm

They always say make the best of of who you meet in any given situation. I wrote my test this evening for Server, but before i was to go into the testing center i went to the park to cram a litte more right outside of the testing center. I met a gentleman who was curious to what exam i was taking and what do i feel about my progress, background,my skills, and test scores up to this point. I first thought this dude was asking way too many questions and besides i didn't have much time to talk before the test, but i decided to be nice and answer all of his questions. He gave me tips and asked my thoughts on people haveing no exeperience and getting into IT.

I started rattleling off my thoughts and the fact that everyone needs a shot. I told him i already make a lot of money in my current position, and i would volunteer or work practically free to get my foot in the door. I told him of the mini network of 4 computers i've set up in my home and practiced, read books, exchanged ideas on this board and tried helping everyone i could. Well my fellow Examnotes friend it was time for me to leave because my exam was scheduled for 4pm. I thanked him for the conversation and the tips. I went into the exam center and the test was pretty straight forward I had the normal 35 questions 75 minutes. I only had about 3 questions that i've never seen and i know they were trick questions. The other 32 questions were okay, however the wording was changed around on at least 20 of them, But if you know the logic and the subtance you can work it out.

I passed with a 966 and was very happy, walked out to get in my car, i looked over at the park and the gentleman was still their with his kids. I thought i'd let him know of my scores, He seemed as if he knew already what i'd made as i approached him. I indicated the 966 score on server and also reiterated the 1000 i made on workstation june 1. He was happy for me and asked if i was ready to proove my worth? Huh??? He told me he was a IT Manager for a huge company here(which will remain nameless) I almost crapped in my pants. I thought he was jokeing until he pulled out his card and gave it to me, indicated they would be hiring for a new division for August, and if i'd come in Monday for an interview!!!!!!!!!!! I of course agreed after the numbness wore off.
He didn't even tell me what i'd be interviewing for or maybe he did and i was too excited to remember, but it's amazing how destiny is, and I always pride myself in helping others and hopefully i've helped myself. Killed two birds with one stone today. People you never know who you're talking to,so respect the time. As always if i can be of help call upon me.

Beboy,

I used one of the best books i think out there Windows NT Server by Alan Carter a must buy and Testout(core technologies) for study materials. Transcenders,Testout(test simulations), examnotes test and one braindump. I also have a mini computer network in my house where i had much practice. You just have to dedicate time to hit the books hard, oh i also shared conversation and helped people on bulletin boards like this one and cramsession. That's the Key! Learn by listening and helping others. If you need more indepth help, pointers, and material just email me. I love helping others.

So how did the interview go?

freddy,

I got the Job! The interview lasted about 15 minutes, i had to perform some task that were to me simple. Setup accounts, unlock, replicate scripts and etc.., i think it was to feel me out. The Idea that it can be done and achieved is just wonderful. Paper MCP to Real MCP and future MCSE. The Job will start July 31st, I'm currently studying Enterprise now and will be taking the test in a week. The Company will pay for everything from Network Essentials on. I must admit the negative vibes and postings about that topic(Paper MCSE) makes you wonder, but man i tell you nothing, and i repeat nothing will stop me. Kevin Costner's movie Field of Dreams says it best "If you Build it They will Come". Build your certifications and skills and the Job(s) will come. Don't let No One or No Media/Writings stop You. If i've learned anything from helping others in my everyday life to these certification stages it's helping, caring, directing and supporting. If i can help anyone don't hesitate to ask.

Great! It is always encouraging to hear a real life Cinderella story. You remember the story, escapes from the life of drudgery and marries the prince. Good luck in your new job and stick to your goals.

Aim High!
