Author question about the deadline, and the core tests.

2000-11-27, 4:33 pm

I have to take the MS Windows NT server and workstation tests to graduate from college. I could actually take the courses, but I really dont think that It is wise to stay in school a for one more semester just to take 2 classes. I passed the Workstation exam last week with an even 900 and I am going to take the server exam this coming friday (dec 1st). My question is, since I know enough to pass the remaining core classes without studying much more, will I be eligible to take that single upgrade test for the MCSE 2000 track? Or am I going to have to somehow cram in two more electives before the deadline? I am 100% positive that I can knock out the core exams by the deadline with relatively no stress. But is the MCSE title required for the 4.0 track ppl to be eligible for the single upgrade test?

All you need to be eligible for the 70-240 upgrade exam is Server, Workstation and Enterprise

freak, thanks for the reply however I have one more question.

I have workstaion done, I do server this friday, and net essentials next monday (dec 4th) and then enterprise dec 8th. that will do me for the core exams. With all of that being done, you are saying that I can take any current electives following dec 31 and I will in fact be eligible for the 240 after dec 31st? And if I take two electives and the 240 next january I will be a current mcse? sorry, the guy at the testing center has me all confused.

That sounds like what I am doing:

WS, SRV, ENT & Net Ess by Dec 31 and then 2 electives after Dec 31. Note that most of the NT4 electives are being retired and replaced by newer exams. BUT if you dont change your NT4 MCSE to 2000 by the end of 2001 then effectively you lose it.. but in reality you are still an MCSE and employers will still consider you an MCSE as they are usually not so bothered by Microsofts requirements for keeping current.

Its up to you; I intend to complete the NT4 MCSE electives early next year TAKE A BREAK FROM BOOKS !!! and then have a look at the 2000 path.

Ha ha ha. I tried doing that a couple of times, but I am not good at it. I always go back to bookpool and try and find something else to learn, or I get the shakes

If you've finished Workstation, Server & Enterprise before Dec 31, you are eligible for 70-240. Take 1 Win2K elective, 2 electives from the remaining and you'll be the MCSE.

If you've finished network essential, Workstation, Server & Enterprise before Dec 31, you can take 2 un-retired electives and you'll be the MCSE of NT4 track.

that sounds great then, so i can take proxy and exchange sometime next year.. and will be an mcse in the 4.0 track. then all i have to do to update is the 240 and then i am an mcse for the 2000 track correct? (until proxy and exchange retire...)

actually, after you take -- and pass! -- the upgrade exam, you will need one extra design core exam to be an MCSE 2000...
