| Hi,
I just passed my CCNA certification test on Friday. I am wanting to start my MCSE track. What would be the best way to attack this "puppy"? I have had classes in TCP/IP, NT 4.0 Workstation and Administration. I have the transcenders for most of the MCSE tests. Are those good enough to prepare you or would Exam Essentials be better? The Transcender for the CCNA did not even come close to preparing me for the test so I was wondering if the Transcender for Microsoft is the same way. Any input would greatly be appreciated. Mainly, what test order should I take. Thanks.

| I used transcenders and they are definatley are a good tool with the combination of books and other practice tests. Transcenders are great because they explain the theory behind each question. Study hard and you will do fine. Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions. | |
|
| I studied both SelfTest Software and the Exam Essentials. EE definitely helped more, some of the questions were identical. I've found way too many mistakes in the Transcenders to trust them. Good Luck!! | |
|
| I used Transcenders and Exam Cram and passed with a 933. I also surfed the web for every free practice test there was and took those also.
Good luck on your MCSE pursuit | |

| Cathy,
I use Transcender and Troy Notes and have not gotten below an 876 yet. I have 2 tests left, Server scheduled for Monday and Enterprise later.
The only problem I see is that you have your back up against the wall. Most all the tests in this track expire on Dec. 31., so you have to have all 6 tests passed by then. With just 2 weeks study for each, that is 12 weeks of study in 11 weeks of time. I think a tall order, but it can be done.
Good Luck

| I have passed Server & Workstation so far. Examessential was the greatest help.
I am thinking about CCNA, any advice regarding the selection of best materials including practice tests will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

| The order depends on your background. I had N+ finished so I took NetEssentials first (1 week later) and then took NT Workstation. I took 3 exams in 4 weeks. Passed them all. Average score was 83. Server is next and Then Enterprise. This progression was recommended highly by the instructors at school. It really doesn't matter what order you take your electives. They are all different. Good luck on your exams. I've heard that Transcender is very good for the MCSE tract. I have used Troy Technologies and they are very good...

| I may be wrong, but I believe Microsoft will waive the Net Essentials test, if you have your CNE or Net+ (worth checking into, I am) Also, what you need to do is focus on the core exams (3 or 4) depending if you can waive the Net Essentials. The electives for the NT 4.0 track will not expire Dec 31 2000. I just got off the phone with Microsoft 10 minutes ago and asked you very same question, they said that as long as I have the core finished before the end of the year I can take the electives next year.
The downside is that if you, or we in this case, choose the NT 4.0 track we will have to upgrade the cert by the end of next year...
So, that being said, if you are going for NT 4.0 I would recommend taking your core exams in this order:
70-58 Networking Essentials
70-64 Win 95 (or sub with 98 or NT exam)
70-67 NT Server 4.0
70-68 NT Enterprise

| I emailed Microsoft the question about whether you can waive Networking Essentials if you are Net+ Certified because I was hearing conflicting things about this. Microsoft replied in their email that you CANNOT use Net+ Certification instead of Networking Essentials (which is kind of stupid since Microsoft is one of the memebers of CompTIA and Net+ is supposed to be much harder than Networking Essentials). Sorry about crushing your hopes of getting multiple certs with as little effort as possible ;^P | |
|
| That just sucks!
Oh well.. I think Microsoft will waive that test because I am a CNE...
Thanks again for your crushing blow!

| First, congrats on the CCNA. It is a hard test to pass, and you proved your worth
For the MCSE, Transcenders are great for the core exams, not so for the electives. Try and get Server, Workstation and Enterprise first to qualify for the upgrade to Win2000 -- the 70-240 exam.
Good luck!
