| Hello fellow aspiring MCSEs.
I just passed my Server test on Friday with a 966, and I felt that I was obligated to share my training path with all of you because I read all the posts on this board. I didn't want to spend any money on CBTs or Computer Based practice tests (Transcender, Exam Essentials, etc.) because I am cheap. I read the huge NT Server book and NT workstation Study Guide books by Sybex, the NT Srv & Wks Exam Notes by Sybex, and I used the Ryders Test Edge Practice Test Book to study the questions. After that, I read through all of these posts, and I downloaded lots of FREE practice tests, along with reading some websites related to it for about a week, and I took a week studying. I found the Petri Tests(1) informative, but by the time you get to the fifth test they got very repetitive. I took the Transcender(2) demo (all 10 freakin' questions) and the Exam Essentials(3) demo also. EE's demo was much better that Transcender's, it had many more questions, but they had basically the same content. After that, right before the test, I read over the IcePage Braindump(4) and the XXXMan Braindump(5). The Icepage one really kicked butt (read the last 10 questions, I didn't see another dump or testsite with those types of questions, but they were on my test), but I think the XXXMan was shoddy and had too many mistakes. I read the braindumps with a grain of salt, however, because I knew that they could have mistakes. I read a couple of questions and thought, hey, this guy's wrong! Well, the problem is that the person who wrote the braindump wrote it from memory, with the wrong wording on certain questions. Trust me on this, if the question seems wrong, just understand the theory and concepts behind it, and when you take the real test, you will see the same question with much more comprehensible wording and it will be all that much easier. My final resource was this site, oddly enough! On the server main page is a link (6) to a page of 55 questions taken from a Transcender test, and it reads just like a braindump. Just so you all know, however, when I took the server test, 33 of the 35 questions I saw were either on the IceMan dump, Petri test, or the Transcender page. And just a background FYI on me, I took workstation with minimal studying and FAILED with a 666/1000 w/700 passing. I studied like crazy, took it again, and then PASSED with a 866. If you want to see the sources I quoted, follow the links below and good luck.

P.S. I also found something odd on the web when I was studying, LANOP(7) is offering NT 4 Certs after Microsoft retires it. Anybody taking them up on this or anything? Let me know, thanks.

Once again, Good Luck and don't forget to breath. |
