Author I Passed!!!

2000-09-15, 1:58 am

Hi,

I couldn't believe it- I got 1000/1000!! I was so excited I almost jumped out of my chair. I studied hard, and I knew my stuff - but I didn't realize that I knew it that well.

I also didn't expect such a high score because I got slammed with scenario questions. I had about 10 - 12 scenario questions!!

well let me be the first to congratulate you! thats a perfect score. can you give us an idea of what study materials you used. I'm just starting and so far I've only used NT Workstation Study Guide by Sybex. is that any good for the exam? Also, do you have NT experience or not? Thanks for all the input.

Hey guys,

Thank you very much for all of your support and congratulations.

To study I used the Exam Cram books, New Riders, Sybex and the LearnKey book. I also used the LearnKey CD's. All of these were good, but if I were to reccommend 2, they would be LearnKey and New Riders.

I have never "worked with NT" in a professionnal atmoshere. At the school I attend however, we are allowed to play and do whatever we want. So far I have been allowed to tear down the network and set it back up, do standard installs, perform unattended installs, add users, change permissions and almost everything in between. The Instructors theory, is that since we are all already A+ certified, there is nothing we can do to the machines that we won't be able to fix. From what I understand this is not the norm for a training center, so I guess I got lucky by finding it. So, in answer to the question, yes I do have NT experience, just not in a proffessional environment.

As for tips for studying for the exam, just make sure you know it cold. Not only because of the exam, but because of your future career. Simple things draw the line between paper MCSEs and the real deal, like not knowing that in order to use the /ox switch to create the boot floppies, you have to be in the i386 directory. First day on the job, and you have to ask why the Winnt/ox command won't work, you have a problem.

Also the best advise I can give is: Study hard till the day before the exam. The day before the exam take one last look through your notes, and then put your books away and don't look at them again. The night before the exam go to bed early so you will have a clear head for your exam. The morning of the exam relax, drink coffee or tea, take hot bubble baths - do anything but do not look at your notes or books. When you go to write, take 10 deep breaths before you start, read each question through 3 times before you answer, and if there is time check your answers again before you end the test. This method works very well for me.

The reason I say not to study from the day before the exam on is that anything you don't know by that point, you aren't going to learn by the next day, and if you study at that point you run the risk of confusing yourself.

I haven't quite come out of the clouds yet. But I started server today - just did the install and made boot floppies and played with the program today.
