Server 4.0 intall HELP!!!!!!

| Hello my friends..
I have a huge dilema over here. I was trying to install Server 4.0 on my computer at home but I run into some problems I never seen before. I have a 7GB hd with 4 partitions. Each is configured as FAT. I am running WIN98 and Win Server 2000. I want to install Server 4.0 Now, everything goes good with install till one point. I create 3 floppies and then restart, blah blah blah... after hardware detection, setup is trying to "Inspect for Other windows versions" At this point my computer is stuck. I tried to run the install from Dos and Win but I get the same thing. HELP PLEASE!! ANYONE??? | |

| Hi,
I don't know much about Windows 2000, but I'll give your problem a shot.
After re-reading your question, I really suspect that this may be your problem. I suspect that on your computer you have Win98 and Winserver 2000 on two partitions of your hard disk. I suspect that your partitions are formatted as FAT32, because Windows 98 accepts it and I am not positive about Winserver 2000, but I suspect that it does too. Now your are trying to install NT4 Server on a FAT32 Partition. NT4 will not support FAT 32, it either has to be FAT16, or NTFS. Your partitions are too large for FAT 16.
Check this out and let me know if I'm right.

| ok... here it is. I am running FAT16 on all of my partitions. I have WIN98 and Win 2000 server installed. WIN 2000 supports FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS (pretty cool huh?) so... I was trying to install WINNT server 4.0. It went with floppies and all that good stuff... after restart, it detected my hard drive with no problem. then after that it says:"Setup is checking for other versions of Windows" at this moment my computer just freezes. WHY??? | |

| Try and start the install from with in Windows 98. Or change your BOIS so that it boots up to CD first. After that the install should work because that is what I did the other day. I was running Win 98, Workstation, and Server. But as for the problem that you are having I can't think of anything else. |
