Converting from fat32

| I'm setting up a study lab, I already have one computer as my workstation computer and now my second computer i'm going to use for the server. I've tried to delete the fat 32 off the second computer to install NTserver,but it game me an error on the last step screen " unable to partition because disk couldn't be locked"? How do you delete the Fat32 correctly off? I would appreciate some pointers | |

| first you need to fdisk your drive. if your going to put NT on, you need to make your fat 16bit. thus partition your drive at 2 gig
when using fdisk, do not say yes to the screen that appears first about partitioning the whole drive. if you do, you will not be able to use fat16...
after you create your partitions, you need to format each drive. after you can install
your server/workstation.
I also have a small lab in my home
I use a PB 60mh pentium for my nt40 server
and have an IBM with a 20gig and 2.5gig
and a PB 233mh pentium with 6gig. all duel boot with Windows98 and Windows NT40.
my server auth each workstation.

| I went thru the steps. (1) Fdisk (2) select 3 to delete partition (3)select 1 for primary partition, it took me to the screen that gives you the partition info, drive,mb and gives you the warning. I verified that partition would be 1 hit enter and then got messege "could not change partition because disk could not be locked"? How do i get past that? | |

| Found some problem once, and it happen to be a NTFS partition, any way even if it is not the only way I found to be efective to remove that was with partition Magic from Power Quest, it analyze your drive and give you choices on what to do, obviusly tell it to delete every partition, then go back to fdisk and format the h.d.. Hope this help

| Well the easiest way to do this is, start the NT installation, and during the installation, you can delete the current partitions and make new ones. You can then have the NT install format the drive with NTFS or FAT16 whichever you prefer. | |

| Road warrior, Chief G, and Gammann I want to thank you for the help, it worked fine. I've never had to take a fat32 off before. Went to a siminar and found out that fat32 is supported in win2000!!!!! |
