Well I must be an idiot. Good lord, I've been studying for a month now. The Sybex book for exam 70-073 and a CD from Smart Certify. I have taken so many sample tests and have yet to pass one of them!

Is there a trick to it? I mean cripes I can't even get over 500 out of 1000. That is just plain pathetic. I've been working on computers for 5 years now, just started learning about networks.

I've tried to link to the cram exam portion but no page(s) load.

Any tips or tricks? I need to take the 70-073 test on Oct. 16 and right now that's going to be money down the toilet

Are you using Exam Essentials or Transcenders, if not I suggest you do.
I'll check and see what else I used, can't remember it was in April!

I'm not familar with either one. Any advice you can pass on would be greatly appreciated. I'm a wreck right now trying to figure out how on earth I'm going to do this.

DFen,

There is no trick to pass the exam. If u know it, you passed.

I don't know what u work with, but if u working with computer for 5 years and still have such hard time for this exam. We have a problem here..

Did u work with NT before?
Do u know any basic network?
If u need it, u might try for the training center for your MCSE 2000. Just a suggestion.

Sometimes it is the wording that trips you up even if you are familiar with the software. There are also sometimes when what is done in the "real world" is different from Microsoft's Standard. I've worked with Novell for 18 months and NT for 2yrs. I feel more comfortable with NT, but I failed Server 2. I passed with a high score the 3rd time, and I've done WS and Enterprise. What about you?

I've only worked with a network for the last 6 months. I understand the workings for a single stand alone machine. The stuff I've picked up on the network side, is only what I watch when the folks who built the system come out to fix something or change something. I've never sat down to a computer that has NT Workstation. I feel like I'm going into this thing blind.

My suggestion, take the Network+ to build up your network background. Then look at the exam 70-058. Also, pick up some NT book and read it. It might help u to understand more about MS OS.

Or u need to learn from the training center.

However, u shall go for the MCSE 2000. U don't have time to finish up the all 3 workstation exams. So, just go for the MCSE 2000, but study NT will help u on the new MCSE.

Hope this help u!

Don't let it get you down!
I began the MCSE track with no computer experience. What is working for me is MOC, followed by Exam Cram (Coriolis Publishing). After that work the Transcenders. You will get 200-300 the 1st attempt, but print your wrong answers and focus your studying on what you don't know. Re-read E.C. until you feel more confident! (Be sure not to guess on the Transcenders, or memorize the answers) Best of Luck!!

If u not ready, u are not ready. Building up a strong background is very important.

Fail by mistake is **** , but u tried your best.

However, if you learned yr mistake from the exam. This is totally WRONG. There are many sources and practice exams on the web for free. Take the exam when u sure.

If u know it. 1 shot the exam is out.
Do u think this is better?

ALL AS I USED WAS EXAM NOTES AND TRANSENDERS
WITH A FEW TIPS FROM HERE.MAIN THING TO DO BEFORE YOUR MOCK TESTS IS START AND CANCEL THE TEST THEN SHOW ALL CORRECT ANSWERS IF YOUR LIKE MOST PEOPLE YOU WILL REMEBER WHAT YOU SEE FIRST, DO IT A FEW TIMES AND YOU WILL BE AMASED AT WHAT YOU REMEBER. THIS MAY SOUND LIKE CHEATING BUT ONCE YOU'VED PAST YOUR TEST YOU CAN GO BACK AND STUDY THE SUBJECT BETTER AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND IT MORE

That is a good point, it helps me analyze my weak points so that I can focus my studies on myweaknesses. I myself like to search dumps for similar questions to further understand.

This worked great when I did this test a couple of years ago.
Sybex study guide and exam cram for NT Workstation and transcender practice tests. By the time you've finished both the study guides you will know NT pretty well. Make sure you load NT on a PC at home and go through ALL the exercises and the test will be easy. Don't just skim read the books, read them cover to cover.

you r not an idiot
u r just thick!!!!!
use the transcenders !!!!!

Although this is too late for the October 19 dealine, it will help others.

If there is a key , it is not to know which is correct. Instead, know why each answer is wrong.

This will help you to get the correct answer even when NONE of them seem correct.
It will also help you get past the 'Bogus' answers that are designed to trip those with lesser knowledge up

I had seen this advice, and found it improved my test scores quite a lot. Notice, it also focuses on actually knowing more than memorized Q&A's provided by others...

------------------
Know why the other
answers are wrong

2000-10-30, 4:41 pm

Ok DFen here is my 2 pence worth,

1. DON'T GIVE UP keep at it
2. It's easier to eliminate the bogus/nonsense/crap answers before deciding on the correct ones (simple if you know your stuff!)
3. Having eliminated the crap you should be left with either 1 or 2 answers, at this point you have either 100% chance or a 50% chance of getting the question correct.
4. Read the questions twice (to some extent ignore the time limit, make sure you understand the question.)
5. If your running out of time GUESS, that is pick an answer, as you get it wrong if you don't pick one.

Hope this helps in some way, It's what's got me through a BSc(Hons) degree & 50+ Certification exams.

P.S.
if you can get hold of 2 more machines to:BUILD IT, BREAK IT and finally FIX IT It will help you in your networked study if you do this.

MCSE is not supposed to be easy. Study, ask questions, use a test network at home, ask more questions. We are here to help! I also have several study guides on my site, along w/ some prep tests.
Let us know how we can be of assistance, and keep your spirits up. It's not about falling down. It's all about getting back up and kicking butt!
