Author A little confused... can anyone help me here??

2000-09-20, 3:00 am

Hello my good friends.

First I have to say that this web site has been a great resource. By reading some of the postings I started to understand some of the things that I just couldn't get bymyself. Now I have another one I just can't get or rather, getting confused with.

The topic? UNATTENDED INSTALLATION!!!!!!!!!

Please, can someone explain to me in laymens terms? I understand the concept I just get confused with those scenario questions =(

Like how many files do I need of and when??

Any simple explanation would really help me.

Thank you!!!

UNATTEND.TXT=a script file that inputs all the stuff you would if you were sitting in front of your computer during install ie..User name, Display resolution, domain to join, protocols to use...
UNIQUENESS DATABASE FILE= used WITH UNATTEND.TXT UNIQUE is the key word it provides UNIQUE details specific to each machine ie..User/Network settings/computername
SYSDIFF=is generally used to record differences between default install and one with apps added. Know sysdiff/snap (initial shot of system before changes) and sysdiff/diff (snapshot AFTER changes have been made)
(whew)
Exam cram covers this nicely. I remember seeing questions (either on exam or practice) that would provide very close scenarios, but try to trip you up by calling sysdiff "windiff". Also know that you need an answer file for each unique hardware configuration (many questions try to trip you up with that also)
Good Luck!

if u have 5 desktops and 5 laptops u going to install NT on and same apps, u need a 2 answer files, one for desktop and for the laptops, u only run sysdiff to install the same set of apps on the pcs, (dont get trickws by windiff or any setup.inf files)..cont..and one UDF file to contain computer name and htings like that..
hmmmm, some1 correct me if im wrong, i thnk i am, just typed it of the top of my head..
