I got laid off wednesday morning. The main project I was hired to do was finished and handed off to Accounting several months ago, and I did some technical training projects after that plus some additional implementations of the project I had worked on; but there came a time when that was all done, and the other guy in the department is SO DARN GOOD--if the company is doing a staff reduction, he's the right one to keep; and he's a nice guy, too, he didn't know what to say to me, but it'll be okay. It'll all be okay. By wednesday afternoon I'd updated my resume and sent it out to several prospective employers I'd found online. The company provided a severance package that is generous by today's standards, I'm paid through the end of the month with my health insurance paid as well, which goes anyway because the company has to pay it for the whole month anyway.

I've got a bunch of things I want to get done at the house, because we moved in kind of a hurry and some stuff just kind of got stuck where it fit instead of where it really belonged. I've got a new pair of glasses on order so I'll have an updated "look" for interviews. (Found out that contacts and lasik are both out of the question for me; I could have either or both and still need glasses--getting old sucks!)

One thing I want to do in my leisure time is write my congressman and ask where the fast internet access is for the rural area I live in; Congress made a big noise about mandating it, and our phone company has put DSLAMs in other rural areas, but we still can't get it.

but I will keep the faith...

Sorry to hear that Y, but I'm sure you'll get a new gig soon.

I had a time last year which was full time leisure, so I kinda know what you are going through.

Good Luck

Good luck with the job hunting!
Let us know how it turns out!

I also know what that's like as I was doing that back in 2005.

In just a few hours I start my new job as Network Coordinator at a media company. I'm really excited, it'll be a lot more of what I've been working toward! Came at just the right time, too, I have one check left to cash, my vacation pay. The kids start spring break this week, though, I hate to miss out on that, but this is too good to pass up!
