Connect *TIVO* to your Network?
|
|
| Deja-vue 2003-05-18, 10:51 pm |
| After upgrading both of my TIVO's with a couple of 120 gig Hard drives, i am now trying to connect them to my Network.
I ordered a special Network card here , downloaded all the Tools (Boot-CD)to do it, however the Instructions are quite confusing.(adding codes and lines to the linux OS inside the TIVO)
Has anyone out there done this?
I am trying to use FTP or Telnet to connect to it, then TyStudio to capture Videos onto my PC and burn them onto DVD.
Anyone....anyone?...Bueller?

| I have a ReplayTV and I personally think it's a lot better than TIVO. Stuff that you have to hack with a TIVO, ReplayTV already has. And it comes network ready, with a built in NIC. You can schedule your programs over the web, send shows to other people, etc... | |

Ghaouf, Tivo and ReplayTV are two DVRs (digital video recorders). They simply change the way you watch TV. With both you can pause live TV, rewind live TV, instant replay sporting events, record a bunch of shows VERY easily, record every episode of any show automatically, etc... You will never need a VCR again unless you still want to watch VHS tapes.
It does this by recording TV onto a built in hard-drive. Instead of a tape, it records to a hard drive. And it is always recording; that is how you are able to pause live TV. It's around $200 or so give or take and around a $11/month charge onto that. It's a really nice investment, especially if you like to watch a lot of shows that you are not home for. I prefer the ReplayTV because it has more features and built in ethernet, but TIVO is also real popular.

I don't pay the $11 per month.
I bought a "Livetime-Subscription" for $199.00 several Years ago, when they first came out.
It lets me add as many TIVO's as i want.
So, can you transfer Movies to your PC and convert ( re-mux) them to Mpeg-2?
just wondering. | |

Yah. I have played around with this: http://dvarchive.sourceforge.net/
It's real nice. You can send any ReplayTV show from the replaytv to your hard-drive, watch it from your computer (although I'd rather watch it on my much bigger TV screen - I did it a few times just to try it out), and you can also convert it to a Video-CD or DVD, which I have not done yet. You would need another program to convert the format I think.

A vested interest, I'm looking at getting a TIVO (I have a serious dislike for SKY and thus SKY+, robbing bastards) so if it triples the storage to approx 40 hours in best quality, It may help my hand open the olde wallet...

bearing, i got 2 Sony SAT-T60's, with 148 hours recording time each.
They will only record at the highest possible resolution, no other choices.
Let me know if you need links on how to do it or where to get the tools.

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone? ...the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered? ...raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.

| Can I connect two or more Tivo to a single desktop Software? One access key to cover all three of them. Otherwise, do I need to install three copy to three different machine. I just want to know before I do anything because my buddy want to hook up Tivo, but not sure do he need three computers. | |
