I have a serious proublem with my PC, this morning I opened it, and it started normally, then when it was supposed to display the desktop, nothing appeared eaven the task bar..exept the wall paper on the desktop but nothing else...
I tried 1- safe mode, same problem
2-restore the last good configuration, but didn t resolved the problem
3-I tried a repair with the XP cd, but gave me the same screen after rebooting..
the only thing I can do it's to load the task manager with the ctrl-alt-del combinason
and with that I can open my files like an exell file that I worked with without problems...I tried a new task by typing explorer or desktop but doesn t open anything..
can somebody help me with that??

Put in the Windows XP cd and load the recovery disk. Try the fixboot command. If this does not work than you may have to do a reinstall as opposed to a repair.

the fixboot command has nothing to do with your problem.

However, are you sure you ran a repair? Boot to the CD, select that you want to install XP, then it will say it is looking for prior versions. It will detect that you already have XP installed. Then it will ask if you want to repair the current installation.

The repair option will reinstall critical system files.

Or you can run System Restore. Go to Task Manager, select File, then Run...
The System Restore executable is located at:
%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\
rstrui.exe

Hope that helps.

try opening the registry editor
%SystemRoot%\regedit.exe

go to hkey_local_machine\Software\Mi
crosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Run

delete all entries

Then reboot.
