Changed the domain name to a workgroup name and now it won't let me in. Says my password and/or user name cannot be logged on, not even as an administrator. It appears that the workgroup name was mistyped.

I need to change back to the old domain so I can log back on the network again. Is this possible? Ctrl+Alt+Del won't let me do anything. Please help!!

Hi
You are going to need to break into the OS. There are lots of tools/programs to that these days ask around or check on the net for some.

I have used a program called ERD Commander in the past which is wicked.. All it helps you do is rename the admin password and hey presto..

Let us know how you get on

That's the thing. I don't get to choose which domain or workgroup I can log in to. I don't have this option. Once I hit ctrl+alt+del the options I have is to enter user name and password. That's all! It won't let me in. What do you mean by undocked mode?

When you took the computer out of the domain, you can now only log on with a local account. If you don't have the local administrator password, go to http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ and download the boot disk. You can reset the admin password with it.

When you built the system, you should have set a password for the local Administrator at that time. That said, many folks do not set the local Administrator at build time and over time forget that fact. Remember the Sysadmin from Microsoft a few years ago? He built a system and it went into production without a local Administrator password and someone hacked into it from the outside. Not good.

Back to your problem, if your change from Domain to a workgroup was successful, you should log in as user name: Administrator and as we stated earlier, the password is the local password from the time of build (or maybe no password at all.) Do not attempt to log into a Domain or workgroup i.e. – Administrator@domain.name... as you might in an active directory domain.

If this does not do it, the system SID may be corrupt. This may be fixable via ERD but even that cannot fix everything and you may need to do a parallel OS installation to recover your system.

Best of luck.
