Hello, I am now studying for the CISA exam and wanted some advice on how to study. I keep hearing how terrible it is? Does anyone have any advice?

I too am a new student. My background is CPA and I am finding the technical stuff a bit too overwehlming. Though interesting, the time left is too short to prepare properly. I would welcome some tips too.

Dear CISA Candidate,

I beleive the best approach to preparing for this examination is to take a knowledge diagnostic test to determine your strengths and weaknessess. After reviewing the test preparation assessment results, you should then prepare a schedule for reading and studying CISA examination related material.

Hopefully, these suggestions will assist you in achieving a passing score. Good Luck!

I do not know if this is what you mean by CISA "braindump" material, however, Boson Software's ISACA web page (http://boson.com/tests/auditor.htm) offers researched CISA practice tests and information systems auditing monographs.

If you are preparing to sit for this examination, the previosly mentioned resources should be on your study list.

I am also taking the exam in June. I didn't care for the Kramer text - CISA Prep ($60). A new book out - Exam Cram - CISA by Allen Keele is great ($23). Goes through the material you need to know quickly. Also includes a Cram Sheet at the beginning of the book. Only downfall to the book is you don't get ISACCA's interpretation as to what is important. In other words, the answers to questions such as: What is the least, most, best way.... Keele will say an excellent way is to... These types of questions make up probably 40% of the exam if the 650 test questions are representative of the exam.

I have also found the PassMatrix software to be helpful - though the cost is outrageous ($595).

Make sure you cover the new material for the June exam - PKI, EDI, etc. you can bet that there will be at least one question in each of the new areas.

Good Luck

what do you think about those training bootcamps?

If you learn better in a classroom setting by all means go to a camp, but remember taking the CISA is different from taking exams at alot of the training camps. First, the training camp does not administer the exam. Second, this is not strickly a factual exam. It is also the ability to assimilate the information in the question and make a judgement of the "best", "least" etc. Before signing up for an expensive camp, I would definitely check out your local ISACA group for a review. In Sacramento, our ISACA group gave a 16 hour review and a 4 hr practice test for free.
You can't beat that price!

Hi, I'm quite new to cisa. I have a few questions...

1) what is the cost of this cert?

2) how do you maintain or recertify this?
by CPE points, or take a recertification exam? and How many years is it good for?

3) do you need to be sponsored (like in the CISSP) or show you have relevant experience in the audit field?

4) the site states the location for the upcoming exam, like in NYC... where in NYC?

5) is this exam a fill in the bubble with #2 pencils, written, etc... ?

Thanks!!!

The cost of registering for the exam is $450 if you are an ISACA member. In addition, the cost of the manual is $105 (for members). They also sell additional resources on their web site.

The test is given in June and Dec. To take the exam in June you must have registered by March 28.

To see if you qualify go to the isaca's web site - www.isaca.org. Press Certification.

This is a fill in the box/bubble, but it is my understanding that it is subjectivly graded. If too many people miss the answer to a question it will be thrown out etc. Just because you get a 70 or 75% doesn't mean you will pass. You are competing against everyone else taking the exam.
