| Hello everyone.
What are some of rates for pc repair. I've been offered a small job to do, but don't know the average rate for such a job. The will consist of backing up important documents, deleting and reinstalling the OS. How much would be a good price? Farthermore how would you calculate the labor? Also if you can throw in other average ratings for normal PC repairs would soooo help me out. Thx

| Rates will vary on where you are.
Look around at people advertising in your area and see what they are charging.
post your area here and maybe someone else here is close by and maybe able to give you an idea.

| Call a local repair place and tell them the problem you are going to go fix and act like it's you who need the help. Ask how much they charge.
done. | |

| Hello all.
I live in New York City. I still don't know how much to charge. I'm sure he probably called other PC repair places, if that were the case he would just bring it there. How much would a "independent contractor" like myself charge?

| NYC ehhh? I live on long island and whenever I do anything like that I usually charge only $55/hr.. but I have low confidence and smell funny. | |

| I know your dilemma. Done this "PC repair"
biz informally for many years. If you're talking about going to their house/business, $50/hour is definitely *not* out of line, nor is a two-hour minimum, which means the minute I step across your threshold, you owe me $100, whether I solve your problem or not. Even if it takes only a half-hour, you owe me a hundred bucks. I've never had a "customer" balk over those kind of rates. If you're good, you fix the problem, and provide any kind of backup support (guarantee, free second visit, etc.) they're generally *more* than happy to pay you.
If what you do a) appears to them like "magic" b) there was no f**king way they could've done it themselves, and c) you fixed a (seemingly) horrific problem, they're usually willing to pay just about anything, up to the replacement cost of the computer.
Just my $0.02. | |

| Our shop's rates: Chicago area
Service calls: $59.00 to come out, $59.00 per hour, half hour min.
If you bring it into the shop, $59.00/hr.
Backup, format, and OS reinstall (using the customer's product key), and diagnostics should be at the most 2.5 hrs labor.
So about $147.50 is what we would normally charge, plus 2 bucks for each CD of rescued data.

| Guess I should raise my rates...fixing things for experience just isn't paying the bills much anymore. | |

| I used to work for a company in Albuquerque NM that charged between $125 to $150 per hour, two hour minimum. I only received 22% with the company making the rest. Clock started when I received call and was headed to client site. One big difference from alot of the competitors was that all of our work was gauranteed. Some may say that the rates were extremely high, but we fixed problems the first time. It's all about the ROI for the customer. |
