can't we all just get along??

| I find it quite interesting that this site is - in my understanding - supposed to be a helpsite for conversing and discussing and finding help/assistance to everday problems ... yet ... there seems to be so many posts that just get clogged with flaming that people are just not visiting anymore.
I have been reading these posts for the last 5 years or so and the traffic seems to be reducing and there seems to be fewer posts all the time.
Am I alone with this theory? Am I the only one noticing this? Surely the traffic would be better if people spent less time slamming each other and more time 'discussing' problems rather than flaming others that have a different point of view.
I'm sure this topic will receive it's own share of flaming. | |

| I don't know if I have the same experience with this site has you (I've only been here maybe a year or 2 on and off), but I have nticed more flaming then when I first started coming here. Most seems to be caused by people who are recommending or asking for recommendations on brain dumps. Other than that it seems to still be very informative and helpful, atleast down in the CompTIA pit that is. | |

| I agree with you ... this site is very informative and helpful ... although this is the first time that i have ever posted in all the time that i have been visiting this site i have always appreciated a lot of the information and assistance and answers that i have received/found just from reading other peoples' posts.

Man, people with great senses of humour take it well.
All this flaming stuff is all good entertainment.
People still get good advice when they ask for it but when they are not so well known or known not to be regulars, that could prove a bit of a whiffy.
If you don't get the answers you are looking for you look elsewhere.
Would help if everybody kept their bulletin weekly requests turned on for weekly updates.
I've been around since 2002 and had this feature turned off cos I didn't want to get bogged down with e-mail offers. Only now do I realise what I'd been missing and the countless other people who could've benefitted from simple advice professionals would only be able to give with complex theories and mathematical mumble jumbo.
Also gotta consider the fact that people do change their profiles to become new members hence peeps seem to be just new.

Sure I've had my exam failings but that's history now.

| Sorry curiousgeorge but I actually have a life that involves spending time actually working ... I don't have the time like you do to sit and post here constantly.
Armchair general I am not ... I own and run two successful businesses ... one is a drywall company which employs 7 workers and the other is a computer company which employs 5 techs ... when I'm not hanging board or measuring a house for the next job I am troubleshooting other peoples' computer problems or doing data recovery or virus removal or reinstalling an operating system or transferring files or looking for drivers or putting together a new system or doing a service call to someone's home or business or running to pick up parts at the wholesaler or constantly answering the phone.
I also have a game server for battlefield 1942 that I provide and rarely find any time to even play on it ... I don't have any time whatsoever to waste watching TV or hang out or go out with friends as I am usually too busy actually working.
On top of all that I need to find some time to spend with my beautiful wife of 10 years ... with whom I own 3 rental houses which require me to collect rent and fix any problems that may arise like posting rental adds or cleaning up after someone splits in the middle of the night and leaves the place in a mess or fixing holes in the wall or repairing leaky faucets or repainting or or or or or.
You see curiousgeorge - or anyone else that thinks similarly ... I don't have a useless life like some people who can just sit here in front of a computer wasting time posting on forums to create the self-illusion that he/she is actually contributing 'something' to life and society ... I am living life to the fullest and I love everything that I do.
So if you want to think that I am an 'armchair general' ... then you just go ahead and keep thinking that cuz your opinion means exactly absolutely nothing to me - but I thought it was worthwhile to state my position - and by the way ... I have to go as I have a drywall job that will be ready to start after lunch ... I managed to have some time while waiting for XP to install to post in here.
so if you're gonna point fingers curiousgeorge ... make sure you are standing in front of a mirror first cuz then you'll actually be helping someone instead of just attempting to cut someone down - which does no good whatsoever.

I happen to find CuriousGeorges posts very informative and also entertaining at times. Just because you are a stick in the mud it doesn't mean everyone else should be.
I also find that often times when people 'brag' about how important they are, they often times are not as important as they try to put off. I am not saying that is the case with you, but just saying that tends to be common. | |
