| Open Microsoft Word and type:
=rand (200,99)
(I was using Word97 and it gave me a weird message.)
|
| I have Word 2000 and I got 13 pages of "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" repeated over and over again. | |
|
| I'm using Word97 and got 151 pages of "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" repeated over and over again.
hehe | |
|
| Well, at least Word 2K got some of the bugs taken out! | |
|
| Hey, I get nothing! | |
|
| Butterfingers, you probably typed it in wrong! Anyway, I got that in me mail today and tried it and I get 158 pages of "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog". I think Billyboy is trying to tell us something . . . the message must be meant for only certain special people, though . . . | |
|
| Word 2000 (on Windows 2000): 235 pages!!! Do I get a prize or something?!
I don't think it's a bug: it's a Microsoft joke!
|
| Darn, I thought that I was the leader. Myabe everyone gets a different number of pages? dmaftei's winning, anybody else? | |
|
| I got a 151 pages of the same message. That is strange, I wonder if it was developed as a test feature? | |
|
| I don't know. I know there is an Easter Egg in Win95 where you can get a gander at the development team, but this seems rather pointless. There's always bugs in big programs like Word, but this is not exactly something one is likely to type. Maybe we need to mail MS and demand an explanation? | |
|
| Haha, now I know why Office takes up so much space. | |
|
| I have Windows 2000 and Office 2000, too. I did it 3 more times and got 212 pages each time. Darn - I wanted to beat the record! | |
|
| I got it too , I think its kinda neat , now if the message had said " Microsoft The Future of World Domination " Iwould be a little worried. | |
|
| W2K PRO, Office 2000 Professional entered it in once and got 674 pages of The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
No wonder they call it bloatware.
|
| 235 pages.....a 'close' second
NT 4.0 and Offfice 2000 | |
|
| I wonder how many other "secret combinations" there are in that thing??? | |
|
| I dont remember how, but I know with word 97 there is something that you can type in the "About Microsoft Word" pop up that allows you to play a basic game of pinball (different pinball than the one in accessories) while the credits roll by. | |
|
| Humm.. im gonna try it in Office XP (and yes I have it and no I cant give it to you )
the thing doesnot come out till 2 more months or so
|
| "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" is something I remember from elementary school...
It is a sentence that uses every letter of the alphabet in one sentence. If I remember correctly it is the shortest possible doing it this way.
I guess Microsoft is saying it is all elementary?
|
| Well, I've been reading this thread for a couple of days now, and I've always loved finding easter eggs in software, so today I decided to try it.
I got 235 pages, I was hoping for more, but that's all I got.
What a waste of technology! And of a software developers mind! I'm sure someone smart enough to develop Word 2000, is also smart enough to develop something a little bit more indepth than 235 pages of The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog.
But then its Microsoft developers were talking of, and they seem to be the hands-down world record holders for having the most bugs in their software - so maybe they aren't smart enough to come up with a more intelligent idea.
|
| Weird for sure. Under this Word 2000 French version and Windows 2000 Pro english i get 204 pages of this useless phrase..
`Servez à ce monsieur une bière et des kiwis`
It means... Serve that guy a beer and kiwis.
Another `Useless` function in MS products

|
| Does it use all of the letters in the alphabet for french?
So we know that it was planned out and implemented in all versions. Wish they can do that with all their software
|
| Hi again,
No it doesn't use all the letters in the french alphabet.
Yeah, the weird thing is that they made a custom message for both language. I'm wondering what would come out on other Office language. Oh well. Why should we complain about 'additional hidden features'. HaHa.
PS: If anyone has more of those, let us know. At least we'll be able to fully enjoy those MS products .

|
| Hi Paisleyskye,
Been a lot buzy at work and kinda stopped studing for certifications due to the lack of time. I'm reading thru the Sybex book for I-Net+ right now. Trying to get back in the cycle. Hopefully i'll pass it someday haha .

| Window 2000 Server and MS. Word 2000 (9.0.2720) got 225 pages. | |
| timtak 2005-10-13, 9:03 pm |
| In Japapanese word 2000 I get 400 pages of
"
Word 2000 ‚ÍA‰æŠú“I‚È“ú–{Œê“ü—ÍE•ÒWŠÂ
‹«‚ðŽÀŒ»‚µ‚½“ú–{Œêƒ[ƒvƒ‚Å‚·
B
"
which means, for your edification,
Word 2000 is a groundbreaking Japanese language wordpressor that supports Japanese language input and editing environment.

| Holy revived old post Batman!
Wonder if any of the original posters from this 2001 thread are still here to remember this.
Anyway, that's a very interesting easter egg. I wondered if it didn't serve a real purpose though and came up with this. Explanation is in the 5th reply down from the top:

| I was googling "easter egg" and "moodle" (the LMS that I am into) and came accross this thread.
By the way, as you all probably know the =rand(x,y) refers to the number of paragraphs and sentences. They seem to max out at 200,99but other combinations are possible.
It is a bi like a word version of

| ..but where do the beer & kiwis come in? | |
| enforcer 2005-10-27, 5:22 pm |
| I think if you have the beer, the Kiwis will just come in through the front door. | |
| sandy7000 2005-10-28, 9:04 am |
| Is "kiwi" another British slang word? | |
| enforcer 2005-10-28, 9:22 am |
| Not for any thing untoward that I know of.
Just means a person from New Zealand or the bird (feathered kind) that is also found there.
