| Has anyone used this program(logmein.com)? Its like PCanywhere or VNC. It allows you to take complete control of a remote PC, as if you were sitting in front of the PC, the nice bit of it is that the client only needs a webBrowser to take control of the PC, plus there is no firewall configuration needed at all. I'm a field engineer so it would be handy to install this onto the servers if I ever needed to go back. Configuring the firewall's and paying for Vpn clients is to much hassle, plus this logmein software is free...
My only concern is the security issue, has anyone used this before? I'm trying to see how this program works, I mean there's no configuring of the firewall needed...? You just install the app onto the server or workstation, click next, next.. finish. Thats it. Then you just log in from another site using IE with username and pass...

| It sounds like remote assistance which you get for free w/ Windows 2000, XP, 2000 & 2003 Server. They're probably only using the files that already exist on your os.
I personally had the heebeejeebies when I was reading your description. What do you know about the software company that's putting this out?
I'm not the security wiz. Maybe in the Security forum you could find a better answer.

Windows 2000 doesn't have remote assistance capabilities. That was a feature introduced in XP. The only thing W2K offered was Terminal Server.

| From what you are saying, it is running over port 80 TCP, probably much like GoToMyPC.com... I have not used it, so I can't comment. I would recommend testing it on your home test network and seeing if anything funky is happening at the same time. Run a packet sniffer, a port scanner, etc... to determine what is up - if anything... let us know | |

| The white paper just says you need to be an administrator to install the application. I think this would be a security issue for your clients.
I wouldn't istall this (or anything) on a client computer without their express written consent. Otherwise, you're opening yourself up to a bunch of possible legal issues.
