Author static route the way to go?

I just switched from cable internet to DSL. I have a Linksys NR041 4 port router with 3 machines attached. I have a game server set-up on 1 of the computers. It was working fine until i set-up this new Actiontec DSL modem/gateway (has wireless antenna but I am using ethernet) it is connected to the internet plug on the router same as the cable modem was, but because of the firewall or port blocking in the DSL modem/gateway I can't access the game server from the internet. I called tech support, their answer was to set-up a static route 192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.0.1
I see that the last number is the ip address of my DSL modem/gateway (192.168.0.1) but am unfamiliar with the general set-up of these. I set the static route as told then opened the ports in the modem/gateway for my router 27900-27999 tcp & udp 192.168.1.1
this hasn't worked though.
the router ip is 192.168.1.1
the ip for the game server is 192.168.1.102
the ip for modem/gateway is 192.168.0.1
the port for game is 27960

Any ideas of what to try next would be greatly appreciated.
