Have you tried here too?

| i tried a few of those things
but all i have is the OS9 CD
and the computer isnt booting up from the cd
i know i have to hold the C key but isnt working
i dont have the floppy they talk about
the person that gave me the machine says that
she tried to load up a program and the next time she tried to use the computer
the error was there
i think it was a windows 98 compatible software
so its either that software or something happened to the cdrom

| Try pulling the pram battery off the mother board. Go ahead and put it back on too. This will reset the machine for sure. It sounds as if the Command option p + r didn't really take. A bad card can cause this error, but bad ram is rare, and it does't sound like an upgrade issue. A bad hard drive doesn't cause that error.
Pull the battery.
Restart.
Hold down shift to turn off extensions.
Good luck. | |

| tried the battery
still no luck
any other way to boot from the cd
other than holding the C key
since that doesnt work | |

| You need to cuda the machine.
There should be a button on the motherboard that's called the cuda button.
It's normally located close to the battery.
On Macs, it's kind of like a reset button.
Hope that helps. | |

| You could try disconnecting the hard drive's power, until after it boots from the cd. When you held command option p+r did you get the start up chimes? They say to let it chime 3 times, it takes a while. Which model is it, some have a tiny reset button on the motherboard. It is red. Youl'' find it near the processor.
I would try re-seating all the ram, video cards, cables that kind of stuff. Seem like a board level error because it happens in startup. Though it could be one of those extensions. Hold up, how about a currupted font? They load at startup.
If your mac were in worse shape you would get a crash noise, no happy face. Smashcrash, it sticks with you. Yours is not that bad.
Keep trying | |

| power mac6500/250

| If you cannot find the CUDA button on the motherboard, start the computer while holding down the apple+option+O+F keys. This is called open firmware. At the prompt type "reset-nvram" (without the quotes) hit return then type "reset-all" (also without the quotes) then hit return. This should reset the PRAM.
If this doen't help, and it doesn't sound like a PRAM problem, reboot holding down just the Option key. This will bring up a screen that will show you all bootable volumes. Click on the one you want and see if it boots. If the CD is bootable and the cd player is working, you will see it here.
Apple has a pretty good K-Base but the problem is that you have to kind of know the answer to your problem before hand.

| Did you find the CUDA button?
Keep the computer plugged in while you press the CUDA button.
You can also boot up with extensions turned off.
Look on the apple website on disabling extensions to find which one(s) are messing things up.
Hope that helps. | |
