| Hi Everyone,
we're currently using an old version (bought at least six years ago!) of Castle Rock SNMPc Network Monitor and it's time for an upgrade.
What's a good one to look at?
We don't mind paying a reasonable sum for it but please don't suggest anything that's silly money.
Regards

| Ethereal is very popular, I'm not sure about costs, I think it may be free.

| Hi Mat,
<that sounds familiar, could be a joke in there somewhere, but I can't place it>
I have Ethereal but thats' more of a Network Analyser, it shows packets, etc , on the wire.
I'm looking for a Network Monitor that has an icon on the screen for each device that it monitors.
If everything is ok, the icons are green. The monitor pings each device every few seconds (or recieves SNMP packets) and the icon turns red if a device drops off the network.
Regards

| Sorry - posted in a rush, like always!!
I missed the joke as well, but I do recall the company your at always wanting to do stuff on the cheap
The company I'm currently contracting for have several tools - all cost a fortune, and duplicate each other!!
Quite a neat tool they have is Solarwinds, they've also added Solarwinds Orion to it.
The "Professional" version is only $445 dollars (Do I suond like a salesman - sorry!) and will tell you things like interface/router up/down and stores several stats for 3 years.
This is the professional version -
