anyone know what the system requirements are?

I think we've all been waiting a while for this game!

Here are requirements posted on the Doom3 Portal:

Update 14th of July 2004 (still unconfirmed).

From September's PC Gamer issue, they have the system requirements as:

PC Gamer recommends:
2Ghz CPU
512 MB ram
Radeon 9800
5-channel audio

Lowest supported GPU is a Geforce 4 MX (worse than Geforce 3)
Supported cards:
GF 4 MX
GF 3
GF 4
GF FX (and higher)
ATI 8500s, 9000s and higher

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For historical purposes only:

From what John Carmack has said the minimum specification for running the basic DOOM 3 engine will be a:

1000Mhz Athlon/Pentium CPU.
256MB of RAM
GeForce 1 / Radeon 7xxx level of graphics card.

'Full impact' based on some estimates (not official):

1400Mhz Athlon / 1800Mhz Pentium 4 or higher speed CPU.
256MB of RAM + again quite dependant on how memory hungry your OS is.
GeForce 3 (original or Ti 500).

John Carmack long ago (QuakeCon 2001/2002?) said that the GF3/Xbox level of hardware would be full impact, in that dynamic lighting could be enabled and quality would be nearing the maximum, at 30fps and in relatively low resolution (we're talking 640x480).

Current (June/July 2003) high-end systems should be kicking XXX:

Athlon XP 3200+ 3.06Ghz Pentium 4
512MB of RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro or GeForce 5900 Ultra

We've got benchmarks showing the kind of performance and we're talking 'good' performance from these kinds of systems, so hi-end today can manage DOOM ok with full on detail and 1024x768 resolution and higher.

Most people today (June/July 2003) have systems in-between 'full impact' and 'kick XXX', as we don't have performance numbers you'll have to make a guess as to where your system would lie in-between what we have estimated 'full impact' to be and 'kick XXX' systems.

In March 2004 some new requirements coming from a German magazine PCGames Hardware popped up these were totally false and id have denounced them as bogus, they were:

A video card with at least 128MB RAM and Pixel Shader 1.1 support is required for DOOM 3.
A 2.5GHz CPU should be enough for the stencil shadows and physics calculations.

We've got a lot of discussion going on in the forums regarding system requirements, so might be interesting to see what other people are 'speculating' in regards to higher up then just the official minimum hardware specifications.

It sure is fun... Come to think of it, I haven't upgraded for nearly 6 months. I'm only running an Athlon XP 3200+.

Halo is definitely a sweet game. Do you like the Xbox version better than the PC?

I'm big on the Tom Clancy games.
Especially Ghost Recon & Splinter Cell...

They're nice, but you can build a much better PC cheaper than any Alienware PC. But again, Alienware PCs are sweet!

Here ya go:

Looks like you can go much higher, it just may require a BIOS update.

Does anyone know if there is a Linux port?

(I know HL 2 will -not- have one...bummer)

I'd hate to use wine to play a game that would already tax my system, heh.

Anyone have any info or link about these 64 bit proce$$ors? I'm trying to decide which AMD chip to go with on my new system. Dont wanna pay too much overhead so i am thinking to take a step down or two off the latest one and start from there (Thanking Spid for the idea)
(editted to take out the shtinkin hyperlinks)

Well, Doom 3 doesn't do anything special for 64Bit people (according to an article about the game). I think the absolute best upgrade for Doom 3 would be a Geforce 6800 256 Mb card, and 512 Mb system ram. If you have a 1.5Ghz CPU, you should be just fine.

I've read that it runs fine on the minimum system. Of course, it has to look and run a lot better on a pumped-up system.

I can't wait to actually get my hands on half life two especially as I now have a PS 2 best games console to date. Roll on HL2 multi platform. Is this thread about the game itself or the cpu power, speed and graphics pixels of the PC or what?
