Problem with XP Pro, scripts and share drives

| Hey guys.. I have a little problem here with few computers. Here is the problem:
Dell GX270, user logs on to the domain, but the script is not running and share drives are not showing up. However, if user logs off and logs back on, drives are showing up. Nothing changed with user's logon cridentials to the domain and user was able to sucessfully logon with their old desktop. Now, we have upgraded them and few of them have that problem. I have no idea what it can be... any clues? I got them breathing down my neck! They get very frustrated that they have to log off and log back on in order to have their drives showing up.

| We have Dell GX270's on our campus too. I have a couple of logon scripts through group policies. They work fine.
A couple of questions:
Is this only occurring when they are first joined to the domain or have the computers always been joined?
Does it happen every day?
What did you mean when you said "user was able to sucessfully logon with their old desktop."
What did you mean when you said "Now, we have upgraded them and few of them have that problem." What did you upgrade? or did you mean you joined them to the domain?
Lastly, what is your script? Is it a logon script or a startup script?
Give me the info, and I might be able to help. | |

| Well.. they had older PCs and we have upgraded them to GX270s. Everything was working fine on their old one but on the new one the script doesn't run. | |

| The only thing I can think of off hand is the computer account needs to be moved to the correct OU so the group policies can apply to the new computer.
Other than that, I would check the event logs on the computers to see what info it is giving you.
You can also change your script to make it a persistent connection.
Hope that helps. | |

| Well, we don't run AD here. It's NT server.
This is what's happening:
When user turns their computer ON, the share drives are not showing up in the Windows Explorer. It seems like the logon script that is on the server is not even running, BUT when user logs off (not restart or shut down, LOG OFF) and logs back on, the script runs and share drives are mapped up.
I looked all over the place for solution. It's just couple machines that are doing this and they are newwer machines with Win XP Pro on them. Other GX270s are not doing this. Just random ones....
Nothing changed as to users logon cridentials, shares or any changes to their logon scripts. It's just something with WinXP I think...but I can't figure out what it is

| wow.
I didn't think anybody was still using NT.
If it's a random occurrance, the only thing I can suggest is checking event logs on the GX270's.
Here's a link to find out about certain event ID's

Hope that helps. |
